Appearance
Sheshet is a slender High Elf woman with ash-blond hair worn in a long, loosely braided tail, cool gray skin, and sharp silver-gray eyes that seem almost colorless in dim light. A thin scar crosses her left eyebrow, and small black ink marks run from her wrist to her palm like fragments of an unfinished contract. She dresses in a dark leather coat over practical travel clothes, with a red silk cord tied around one wrist as a reminder of the people she failed to save. Her movements are quiet, economical, and almost feline.
Mannerisms
Sheshet pauses before answering difficult questions, as if checking the wording for hidden terms. She rubs the red cord around her wrist when angry, tilts her head when someone lies, and rarely sits with her back to a door. When casting a spell, she whispers the final syllable as though signing a document.
Personality
Sheshet is quick-witted, observant, and quietly compassionate. She treats conversation like a game of cards, watching what people avoid saying as closely as what they reveal. Around frightened people she becomes gentle and practical, while around bullies she grows cold, theatrical, and almost playful. She dislikes grand speeches but has a talent for making a single well-chosen sentence impossible to ignore.
Ideals
Freedom. No contract, crown, god, or devil has the right to own another person's choices. If a rule exists only to protect the powerful, breaking it is a moral duty.
Bonds
She will return to the riverside district and destroy every surviving copy of the infernal contract that condemned its families.
Flaws
She cannot resist opening a locked door, reading a sealed letter, or exploiting a loophole, even when patience would be wiser. She also believes she can outsmart her patron indefinitely, and her confidence sometimes becomes reckless arrogance.
Quirks
Background
Sheshet grew up in a riverside district where elven longevity was less a blessing than an opportunity for the powerful to wait out every scandal. Her family kept records for merchants and minor nobles, and Sheshet learned early that the most dangerous secrets were not hidden in locked chests, but in ledgers, contracts, and polite conversations. By adulthood she had become an exceptionally gifted burglar and information broker, slipping through manor houses to steal proof of exploitation rather than jewels. Her work made enemies among crime bosses and magistrates alike, but it also earned her the loyalty of servants, debtors, and children who had nowhere else to turn. Her life changed when she stole a sealed infernal contract from a magistrate who had used it to bind an entire neighborhood into generations of forced labor. The contract spoke to her in a voice like hot iron dragged across stone. Its author, a pit fiend known as Vhalzeth the Red Auditor, offered Sheshet power enough to break the pact and expose the magistrate, but demanded that she become its living agent. Sheshet accepted, then twisted the bargain through a loophole of her own devising. She now wields fiendish magic while sabotaging her patron's schemes, freeing the desperate wherever she finds them. Vhalzeth considers her a stolen investment. Sheshet considers herself an unpaid debt collector.
“The contract spoke to her in a voice like hot iron dragged across stone.”
