Appearance
Dracona is a lean, sharp-featured human woman with sun-browned skin, restless hazel eyes, and long dark auburn hair usually tied with mismatched ribbons. She dresses in weathered but flamboyant entertainer's clothing, layered beneath a fitted leather jerkin, with colorful scarves concealing pockets for cards, dice, and small bottles. Her rapier is polished enough to serve as a mirror, and her battered lute bears a painted silver dragon on its soundboard.
Mannerisms
Dracona constantly shuffles a pair of dice across her knuckles, taps rhythms on nearby surfaces, and tilts her head dramatically before delivering even the simplest statement. When lying, she becomes excessively polite. When telling the truth, she often adds unnecessary details to make it sound believable.
Personality
Dracona is magnetic, opportunistic, and impossible to intimidate for long. She treats every stranger as a potential audience, mark, ally, or future drinking companion. She is quick with a compliment, quicker with a false name, and genuinely delighted by clever people, even when they see through her. Beneath her swagger is a lonely woman who desperately wants her adventures to prove that she matters to someone.
Ideals
Freedom. No jail, contract, noble, or law should have the power to decide where a person belongs. If someone is clever enough to escape, they have earned the right to try.
Bonds
Her imprisoned mentor is the closest thing Dracona has to family, and she will risk almost anything to free them from Revel's End. She also carries her father's old weighted dice, which she insists are lucky despite their obvious imperfections.
Flaws
Dracona lies reflexively, even when the truth would be easier. She drinks to celebrate, drinks to mourn, and drinks to make questionable plans seem brilliant. Her fear of being abandoned makes her cling fiercely to her mentor's cause, even when the evidence suggests she is being manipulated.
Quirks
Background
Dracona Stein was born in a small corner of the Forgotten Realms under an unlucky star and a very practical father. Her mother died giving birth to her, leaving her father to raise her as best he could. He was loving in his own distracted way, but he was rarely attentive enough to notice when Dracona was climbing rooftops, borrowing unattended goods, or turning neighborhood arguments into theatrical performances. He did teach her the language of dice and cards, however, and those lessons became the first tools of her trade. From him she learned that luck was mostly confidence, timing, and knowing when someone wanted to believe you. As she grew older, Dracona became a well-known performer in scattered villages and roadside taverns. Her songs are lively, her stories are only occasionally true, and her talent for charming strangers has paid for more meals than honest labor ever did. After her father's death, she abandoned any pretense of settling down and began a life of travel, connery, gambling, and increasingly enthusiastic drinking. Her wandering gained a purpose when her mentor, a legendary performer and con artist, was imprisoned in Revel's End. Dracona now travels from town to town spreading tales of the mentor's brilliance, exaggerating the injustice of the imprisonment, and persuading anyone with coin, influence, or useful skills to help break them out. Whether her mentor deserves rescue is a question she avoids answering, especially after her third drink.
“Her mother died giving birth to her, leaving her father to raise her as best he could.”
