Appearance
Bellatrix is a tall, lean tiefling who stands unnervingly close when speaking, as though every conversation is a private confession. Her deep burgundy skin, swept-back black hair, curling horns wrapped with thin gold prayer chains, and long spaded tail make her immediately memorable. She wears scale mail beneath dark clerical robes, and her eyes rarely settle on a person's face. Instead, they move to hands, purses, weapons, doorways, and exits, cataloguing what each person can offer and how quickly they might become dangerous. Her holy symbol is polished obsessively, while the rest of her clothing bears the faint scent of incense and old candle smoke.
Mannerisms
Bellatrix speaks softly enough that people must lean toward her. She pauses before answering simple questions, as if calculating their value, and touches her holy symbol whenever she lies. When someone asks for healing, she names the price before examining the wound.
Personality
Bellatrix is poised, observant, and unfailingly polite, especially when she is being cruel. She treats nearly every interaction as a negotiation and remembers favors with uncomfortable precision. She is capable of genuine tenderness toward the desperate, but her compassion is possessive. She wants people to survive because survivors can repay their debts.
Ideals
Worth. Mercy is not free, loyalty is not permanent, and power belongs to whoever understands what others are willing to surrender.
Bonds
The temple that raised Bellatrix is the closest thing she has ever had to a family, and she intends to make it dependent on her success, whether through wealth, influence, or secrets.
Flaws
Bellatrix cannot resist exploiting vulnerability. Even when she intends to help, she searches for the hidden price, and she becomes genuinely offended when someone accepts her kindness without owing her anything.
Quirks
Background
Abandoned as an infant on the steps of a temple, Bellatrix was raised among priests who taught her that the gods watched every deed and weighed every soul. She learned the rites, memorized the prayers, and became exceptionally good at comforting the frightened. Yet she also noticed which offerings earned the high priest's smile, which supplicants were turned away, and how quickly compassion vanished when no advantage could be found. To Bellatrix, divine service became a transaction. A blessing was a favor, healing was leverage, and faith was most useful when other people needed something desperately. When her superiors discovered that she had been quietly charging desperate pilgrims for private miracles, they did not cast her out immediately. Instead, they sent her into the wider world to serve as an emissary, recover lost relics, and bring wealth and influence back to the temple. Bellatrix accepted with a serene smile. She now travels as a cleric of the Trickery Domain, offering healing, blessings, and miracles for a price. She insists that every soul has a cost. The only question is whether the payer understands what they have truly purchased.
