Appearance
Vaelryn is a tall, lean moon elf with ash-pale skin, long black hair threaded with silver, and luminous gray-violet eyes. A narrow scar crosses his left eyebrow, a remnant of the shrine fire that changed his life. He wears reinforced scale mail beneath dark blue and silver vestments, carries a polished wooden shield marked with a crescent over an open hand, and keeps his holy symbol suspended from a black cord around his neck.
Mannerisms
Vaelryn speaks softly and precisely, often pausing before answering as though selecting words for a memorial inscription. He touches his holy symbol whenever someone mentions the dead, and he instinctively counts exits whenever he enters a new building.
Personality
Patient, observant, and compassionate, Vaelryn gives people time to find their own words. He is gentle with the frightened and surprisingly stern with bullies, tyrants, and anyone who treats suffering as an acceptable cost. Beneath his calm demeanor is a persistent sorrow that he transforms into service.
Ideals
Mercy. Every life is a sacred story, and no story should be discarded because preserving it is difficult.
Bonds
He carries a charred brass registry plate from his destroyed sanctuary and is determined to rebuild its memorial archives. He is fiercely protective of refugees, orphaned children, and anyone whose name has been erased by war or cruelty.
Flaws
Vaelryn cannot easily forgive those who destroy knowledge or exploit the vulnerable. He sometimes risks himself and his companions to save a single stranger, especially when that person reminds him of someone lost in the sanctuary fire.

Background
Vaelryn Nocthyr was raised in the candlelit archives of a remote elven sanctuary devoted to preserving the names of the dead. As an acolyte, he learned that prayer was not merely a request for divine intervention, but a promise to remember those whom the world had forgotten. He became especially skilled at tending the sick, copying funeral rites, and listening to mourners who could not bring themselves to speak before the senior priests. His quiet life ended when raiders set the sanctuary ablaze, destroying generations of sacred records and leaving several refugees trapped inside. Vaelryn survived by carrying the injured through a collapsing side door, but he could not save everyone. In the aftermath, Vaelryn discovered that his faith had answered him not with a voice, but with a sudden radiance in his hands that closed wounds and drove the flames back. He took this as a charge rather than a reward. Now he travels as a healer, exorcist, and keeper of names, seeking lost relics and forgotten graves while opposing those who prey upon the helpless. His elven patience makes him an excellent investigator, but his grief has given him a fierce determination to ensure that no innocent person is abandoned merely because their story is inconvenient.
