Appearance
Pest is a small, wiry kobold with rust-red scales, oversized amber eyes, and a narrow snout marked by a pale scar across one nostril. He wears patched leather armor beneath a dark, hooded travel cloak, with a rapier nearly as long as his body strapped at his side. His claws are stained with ink, soil, and lock grease, and a collection of tiny brass charms hangs from his belt.
Mannerisms
Pest speaks in quick, clipped phrases and frequently glances over his shoulder while talking. He counts coins by touch, taps his claws against his teeth when thinking, and lowers himself into a crouch whenever he feels threatened.
Personality
Pest is intensely observant, suspicious of grand promises, and unexpectedly courteous toward anyone who treats him as an equal. He prefers plans with escape routes, trusts written records more than spoken assurances, and takes pride in noticing details that larger adventurers overlook.
Ideals
Redemption. A person's worth is measured by what they do after failure, not by the failure itself.
Bonds
Pest carries a clay token bearing his clan's mark and will do nearly anything lawful, dangerous, or humiliating to recover the lost gold and earn his place beside his kin again.
Flaws
Pest becomes reckless whenever he sees unattended gold, shiny metal, or anything that might help repay his debt. He also assumes that every dismissal is the beginning of another betrayal, so he lies about small matters even when honesty would serve him better.
Quirks
Background
Pest once served as a lookout for a small kobold clan that lived beneath the ruins of an abandoned counting house. His duty was simple, watch the eastern tunnel and sound the alarm if danger approached. One night, a band of thieves slipped through while Pest was distracted by a glimmering coin caught in a crack. The thieves stole the clan's emergency hoard, including gold entrusted to Pest's watch. Though he chased them through the tunnels and recovered a few scattered coins, the loss was too great. The clan declared him untrustworthy and cast him out until he could replace the missing amount.
