Appearance
Malice is a lean, athletic drow woman with obsidian skin, long white hair braided with black silk, and vivid violet eyes that rarely blink. A thin scar crosses her lower lip, self-inflicted during a private rite of devotion. She wears chain mail beneath layered crimson, violet, and saffron robes patterned after the garments of surface samurai, with a lacquered spider mask hanging at her hip. Two curved scimitars rest at her waist, their hilts wrapped in pale leather and spider-silk cord.
Mannerisms
Malice pauses before answering questions, as though waiting for a spider to whisper the correct response. She cleans her blades in slow, ceremonial strokes and addresses enemies by their full names immediately before attacking them.
Personality
Malice is quiet, observant, and intensely formal. She treats every conversation as a contest of positioning, searching for the hidden weakness beneath each word. She is capable of sincere tenderness toward spiders and toward those who submit completely to Lolth, but her affection is possessive and unsettling. She admires discipline, theatrical restraint, and people who understand that survival belongs to the prepared.
Ideals
Devotion. Every betrayal, wound, and victory is meaningful only when offered to Lolth. A faithful servant does not seek honor, she seeks usefulness.
Bonds
Lolth is the only master Malice recognizes, and every sacrifice she makes is an offering to the Spider Queen. She secretly keeps one black signet ring from House Travra, not out of affection, but as a promise that she will one day decide whether the house deserves to survive.
Flaws
Malice interprets mercy as weakness and fairness as an insult to Lolth. She cannot resist turning a straightforward confrontation into a crueler game, even when a simple victory would be safer. She also fears that without Lolth's attention she is nothing, and this fear makes her dangerously eager to prove her devotion.
Quirks
Background
Malice was born into House Travra and raised among its lesser daughters, where obedience was praised only when it benefited the house. She showed an early talent for ritual, poison lore, and the careful reading of fear in other people's faces. The priestesses saw promise in her and shaped her toward the temple, teaching her that Lolth rewarded not purity, but useful devotion. Malice embraced the lesson completely. She learned to pray while tightening a garrote, to recite scripture while applying venom, and to smile at those she intended to betray. During a night of sacred trials, spiders descended upon the temple and ignored the senior priestesses. They covered Malice instead, crawling across her face and hands without biting. She understood the omen as a command. Lolth had not chosen her to wear a title, inherit a place, or strengthen House Travra. She had chosen her to become a blade. Malice abandoned the house name and began refining a personal code she calls the Way of the Black Widow, a cruel imitation of surface-world bushido built around treachery, hidden weapons, calculated pain, and victory without fairness. She no longer believes she possesses a life of her own. She is a role, a weapon, and a test sent into the world by Lolth.
