Appearance
Ronald is a lean half-elf with warm brown skin, sharp green eyes, and shoulder-length dark hair threaded with a few silver beads. His pointed ears are usually hidden beneath a weathered hood, and a crooked scar runs from his left eyebrow to his cheek. He wears well-maintained leather armor beneath a patched burgundy coat, soft-soled boots, and a collection of mismatched belts for carrying tools, knives, and small valuables. His smile is quick, disarming, and usually conceals three possible escape routes.
Mannerisms
Ronald taps the side of his nose when he is lying, counts doors and windows whenever he enters a room, and casually flips a copper coin across his knuckles while thinking. He speaks with an easy streetwise charm, but his voice becomes very quiet whenever he discusses missing children or his parents.
Personality
Ronald is friendly, observant, and irreverently optimistic. He treats strangers as potential friends until they prove otherwise, especially if they are hungry, frightened, or being mistreated. He has a talent for making people underestimate him, and he enjoys using polished manners and harmless jokes to conceal how carefully he studies every room.
Ideals
Freedom. No one should be owned, trapped, or abandoned because they were born poor. Every person deserves a path out, and Ronald will make one when none exists.
Bonds
The street children of his old neighborhood are his family. He sends part of every reward home and will risk everything to protect them. He also carries his parents' rusted key, convinced it opens a door connected to their disappearance.
Flaws
Ronald cannot resist proving that he can open, steal, or outwit anything that challenges him. He is suspicious of generosity from the wealthy, quick to lie when cornered, and sometimes risks a sound plan merely because the dangerous option feels more familiar.
Quirks
Background
Ronald was raised in the crowded alleys behind a merchant district, the half-elven son of a human dockworker and an elven traveling musician. His parents disappeared during a winter plague, leaving him with a rusted key, a hand-drawn map, and a stubborn little mouse named Button. He survived by stealing food, carrying messages, and learning which guards could be bribed, distracted, or simply avoided. The city became his school, and every locked door became an invitation to improve his education. As he grew older, Ronald turned his talents toward protecting other street children. He robbed cruel landlords, exposed crooked watch officers, and quietly returned stolen wages to laborers who had no hope of recovering them. A failed burglary against a nobleman's vault revealed a conspiracy involving traffickers who planned to sell several orphaned children to foreign spellcasters. Ronald escaped with evidence instead of treasure, and now travels from city to city following the conspiracy's trail. He still steals when necessary, but he measures success by how many people sleep safely because he was there.
