Appearance
A broad-shouldered half-orc woman with weathered olive-green skin, a heavy jaw, and small lower tusks that show whenever she eats, smiles, or clenches her teeth. Her hands are large and permanently roughened from drills, hauling gear, repairing harnesses, and gripping a sword through long marches. Her dark hair is kept in a practical cropped braid, with a few silver strands near the temples. She wears well-maintained chain mail beneath a plain tabard, and carries herself with the steady balance of someone accustomed to uneven mountain roads and crowded shield lines.
Mannerisms
Naska checks buckles, straps, and weapon grips whenever she enters a new room. She speaks in short, practical sentences, often pauses before answering moral questions, and unconsciously taps the rim of her shield when counting people under her protection.
Personality
Calm, observant, and quietly stubborn. Naska notices who is tired, who is being left behind, and which promises have not been kept. She is more comfortable repairing a pack or standing watch than receiving praise, but her dry humor appears when the danger has passed. She respects competence in anyone, regardless of birth or rank.
Ideals
Protection. Strength has value only when it is used to make survival possible for someone with less of it.
Bonds
I carry the old unit insignia of the soldiers who held the bridge with me, and I will protect their families if danger reaches them.
Flaws
I have little patience for people who use lofty principles to excuse practical cowardice, and I can become harsh before I realize someone needed reassurance instead of an order.
Quirks
Background
Naska Quispe was raised near a high mountain road where caravans, mule trains, and soldiers passed between settlements. Her mother repaired harnesses and pack frames, while her father served as a quartermaster for a border garrison. Naska learned early that an army survived less by grand speeches than by dry firewood, sound buckles, counted rations, and people who did not abandon their places in a line. She was often treated as an outsider, but her endurance, sharp memory, and willingness to carry more than her share earned her a place among the garrison troops. During a winter retreat, Naska held a narrow bridge with six other soldiers while civilians crossed behind them. The officer in command ordered them to abandon a wounded scout, but Naska refused, organizing the retreat one person at a time until everyone reached safety. The bridge was lost, and the garrison later called her insubordinate. The soldiers who survived called her dependable. She left military service carrying her shield, her old insignia, and a conviction that authority deserves obedience only when it protects the people beneath it. Her growing devotion to a patient, protective ideal of justice has led her onto the path of the paladin, though she still thinks of herself first as a soldier responsible for the person beside her.
