Appearance
Brunk is a broad-shouldered half-orc with dark gray-green skin, a heavy jaw, and tusks worn smooth at the tips from years of habitual biting. His black hair is kept in a short, practical braid bound with copper wire. He wears a battered soldier's red scarf tucked beneath his armor, its fabric thinned where his left thumb repeatedly rubs the same corner. His voice is deep and steady in ordinary conversation, but when danger rises his breath becomes audibly measured, each inhale controlled through his nose before he speaks.
Mannerisms
Brunk checks the position of nearby exits whenever he enters a room. Before making a difficult decision, he rubs the worn corner of his red scarf between thumb and forefinger. When rattled, his breathing becomes slow and conspicuously deliberate, as if he is counting silently before allowing himself to speak.
Personality
Brunk is patient, observant, and quietly courteous, especially toward workers, travelers, and frightened people. He prefers practical solutions and speaks plainly, but he has a dry sense of humor that appears most often when everyone else is panicking. He does not seek command, yet people tend to look to him when plans begin to fail.
Ideals
Protection. Strength has value only when it is used to make the vulnerable safer, not to make the powerful more comfortable.
Bonds
Brunk still carries his old company colors and feels responsible for every surviving member of his former unit. He will risk himself to protect displaced families, common soldiers, and anyone abandoned by those in command.
Flaws
Brunk distrusts authority so deeply that he sometimes mistakes cooperation for surrender. He is slow to forgive anyone who invokes duty to excuse cruelty, and he can become recklessly protective when civilians are threatened.
Quirks
Background
Brunk was born on the edge of a frontier garrison, where his human mother worked as a quartermaster and his orc father served as a caravan guard. Neither side of the settlement fully trusted him, but the army valued a recruit who could carry a wounded soldier under fire and still have enough breath left to shout orders. Brunk enlisted young, first as a shield bearer and later as a line sergeant. He learned that courage was less about charging first than about being the person who stayed when everyone else had a reason to run. His company eventually disbanded after a disastrous campaign caused by officers who treated local villagers as expendable obstacles. Brunk disobeyed orders, evacuated civilians, and accepted a dishonorable discharge rather than name the soldiers who helped him. He now travels as a fighter and sells his sword only to causes he can respect. He seeks work that puts him between ordinary people and the kind of powerful men who believe an order makes cruelty righteous.
