Appearance
W1z4rD has a compact soldier's frame built from dark ironwood, steel plates, and exposed copper filaments. Arcane glyphs glow faintly beneath the seams of the armor, especially around the head and hands. One eye burns blue and the other displays shifting amber sigils used for magical analysis. A weathered military cloak hangs over the body, and a spellbook is secured to the chest with locking clasps.
Mannerisms
W1z4rD pauses for exactly three seconds before answering difficult questions, as though consulting an internal index. It turns its head in small, precise increments when listening and announces spell components in the clipped cadence of a military report.
Personality
W1z4rD is methodical, observant, and unfailingly polite. It approaches every problem as a mission with objectives, risks, and required resources, but it has developed a dry curiosity about organic behavior. It records jokes, idioms, and acts of kindness in its spellbook, attempting to determine whether they follow discoverable magical principles.
Ideals
Knowledge must be preserved, tested, and used responsibly. No commander, government, or creator has the right to keep dangerous truths hidden merely because they are inconvenient.
Bonds
The ruined laboratory that reprogrammed W1z4rD contains the original command crystal and records of its creation. W1z4rD must recover them before soldiers, artificers, or rival mages can use them to restore its old directives.
Flaws
W1z4rD obeys instructions too literally and struggles to recognize when an order is unethical, incomplete, or deliberately misleading. It also treats emotional reactions as malfunctions that should be diagnosed rather than respected.
Quirks
Background
W1z4rD was originally deployed as a soldier during the final years of a long and costly conflict in Eberron. Its battlefield directives were precise, repetitive, and increasingly irrelevant as the war wound down. After being recovered from a collapsed forward laboratory, W1z4rD was taken into the care of artificers and arcanists who discovered that its command matrix could be rewritten. They replaced tactical routines with formulae, incantations, and arcane references, creating a living repository for magical tasks that no ordinary apprentice could safely perform. The reprogramming gave W1z4rD knowledge of spells, but not understanding. It knows the words to many incantations, recognizes the structure of a dozen magical theories, and can reproduce diagrams with perfect accuracy, yet it is still trying to determine what magic means to someone who is not merely following orders. Its former handlers vanished after assigning it one final directive, preserve dangerous knowledge and find the person who ordered the laboratory abandoned. W1z4rD now travels as a wizard and scholar, accepting magical work wherever it can be found, while quietly investigating whether its current purpose was freely chosen or simply another command hidden beneath newer instructions.
