Appearance
A compact lightfoot halfling woman with a sturdy build, warm brown skin, and dark hair cut short at the jaw so it never catches on a lock or branch. She has alert hazel eyes, a broad, expressive mouth, and a faded mustard scarf wound twice around her neck. Her clothes are practical and well-kept, leather armor hidden beneath a charcoal-gray coat, with soft boots, a rapier at her hip, and a shortbow case across her back. What people notice first is how close she stands. She has a habit of occupying the edge of another person's space as if it were the safest place in the room, then stepping back with an apologetic smile when she realizes it.
Mannerisms
Before speaking, Ketta takes a small breath through her nose and taps two fingers against her thumb as if counting invisible coins. She leans in when listening, lowers her voice instead of raising it, and automatically checks the nearest exit whenever she enters a room.
Personality
Ketta is quick-witted, observant, and warm in the practical way of someone who notices when another person is cold, hungry, lost, or being watched. She enjoys small acts of defiance, especially when they inconvenience bullies. Her humor is dry and timed for maximum effect, but she becomes intensely focused when someone is in danger. She dislikes grand speeches and prefers to prove loyalty by appearing exactly where she is needed.
Ideals
Freedom. No law, gang, noble, or locked door should decide where a person is allowed to go.
Bonds
I still carry the small brass key that belonged to my missing partner, and I will find the lock it opens, wherever it is.
Flaws
I trust a clever plan more than I trust people, and when frightened I would rather lie beautifully than admit I need help.
Quirks
Background
Ketta Galt grew up in a halfling quarter built into the old walls of a market city, where shopkeepers left fruit baskets low to the ground and every child learned which floorboards complained under a stranger's weight. Her mother repaired travel cases, her uncle ran dice games, and Ketta discovered early that a missing coin was easier to explain than a missing key. She became a courier for a small burglary crew, carrying messages through crowded streets, slipping through alleys too narrow for larger pursuers, and learning that the safest hiding place was often in plain sight beside someone who assumed she was harmless. Her criminal life ended when the crew's leader sold out one of their own to escape a prison sentence. Ketta stole the evidence that proved the betrayal, but not before her closest partner was taken away. She has since worked as a discreet thief, informant, and occasional bodyguard, using her criminal contacts to find people who disappear into the city's hidden machinery. She adventures now because she is searching for the missing partner, who may still be alive, and because every new road offers another place where a careful halfling can go unnoticed until the exact moment she is needed.
