Appearance
A small, wiry kobold with rust-red scales mottled by pale copper along the snout, shoulders, and knuckles. Her eyes are dark amber and constantly measuring distance, cover, and escape routes. Years spent outdoors have roughened her scales at the elbows and dulled their shine with a fine coating of trail dust. She wears carefully repaired leather armor, a moss-green hood, and a bandolier of arrowheads, chalk, wire, and folded maps. Within a minute of meeting her, people notice the soft pause before she speaks, followed by a dry throat-clearing click deep in her throat. Her voice is low and surprisingly calm, with a faint northern lilt.
Mannerisms
Auvakka pauses before answering, takes one quiet breath through her nose, then clears her throat with a dry clicking sound. She rarely points with a finger, preferring a small tilt of her chin. When planning, she arranges pebbles, arrowheads, or bits of food into tactical diagrams without noticing.
Personality
Quiet, observant, and practical, Auvakka is most comfortable when everyone has a job and every exit has been counted. She speaks gently even when describing violence, which makes her sudden flashes of ferocity more unsettling. She is deeply protective of frightened people, suspicious of institutions, and fascinated by maps, locks, animal tracks, and the small habits that reveal who someone really is.
Ideals
No one should be trapped by the circumstances of their birth. Freedom is worth discomfort, danger, and even disgrace, especially for those society has already decided are disposable.
Bonds
I owe my life to the scattered kobold families driven from our old tunnels, and I will keep finding them until every survivor has a safe place to sleep. I also carry the brass key taken from the watch captain who betrayed us, because one day I will learn what lock it opens.
Flaws
I assume every offer contains a hidden hook, and I sometimes sabotage honest relationships by testing people until they fail. When frightened, I become controlling and would rather make a bad plan myself than trust someone else's good one.
Quirks
Background
Auvakka grew up beneath a ruined watchtower where a kobold warren survived by salvaging lost gear, guiding smugglers through the hills, and selling false trail maps to anyone careless enough to trust them. Her gift was not strength or charm, but pattern recognition. She could look at a boot print, a broken twig, or a missing nail and tell which route a person had taken, how frightened they were, and whether they expected pursuit. The warren called her Auvakka, a name meaning something close to “the one who hears the ground.”
“Her gift was not strength or charm, but pattern recognition.”
