Appearance
Echo is a kenku with plumage the color of charred wood and coal. They often wear a faded grey tabard over their leather armor, bearing the insignia of a long disbanded mercenary company. Their movements are clipped and efficient, reflecting years of military drill. Instead of a flamboyant cloak, they wear a practical, oiled poncho that sheds rain and dampness during scouting missions.
Mannerisms
Echo stands at a rigid attention whenever addressed by someone they respect. They have a habit of repeating the last word spoken to them in a whisper.
Personality
Echo is a creature of discipline and few original words. They prefer to respond to queries with the exact voice and cadence of the person who issued their original orders. They view every task as a tactical deployment, preferring a quiet, orderly approach to the chaotic whims of civilian life. They are fiercely loyal but often wait for a signal before taking significant initiative.
Ideals
Discipline. The world is a mess, and only a clear set of orders and the discipline to follow them can bring any sense of order.
Bonds
I carry the tattered banner of the Iron Wing. It is the only thing that reminds me who I was before the war ended.
Flaws
I find it difficult to act unless I believe I am following a direct or indirect order from a superior.
Quirks
Background
Echo earned their name in the trenches of the Border Wars, where they served as a communication specialist for the Iron Wing Mercenaries. While others used horns or flags, the officers used Echo. The kenku could repeat a commander's exact voice across a chaotic battlefield, ensuring that tactical shifts were conveyed with total authority. They were not a soldier of the sky, but of the mud, learning to move silently through no-man's-land to gather intel. When the company was dissolved following the Treaty of Greycreek, Echo was left with no chain of command and a set of skills that the local constabulary called criminal. They moved to the city, treating the urban sprawl as just another theatre of war. They still carry their old enlistment papers and keep their daggers sharpened to a military standard. Every locked door is an enemy fort, and every target is a mission objective.
