Appearance
Faro is a stocky human man standing six feet two inches tall, with a barrel-like frame of dense muscle and bone. His weathered, tanned skin is marked by old scars, and his close-cropped silver hair matches his thick, carefully groomed beard. Pale blue eyes study every room with cold precision. His broad, once-broken nose and permanently stern expression give him a rugged, battle-hardened appearance. In casual settings, he wears a dark gray henley, battered leather vest, reinforced canvas pants, steel-toed boots, and a plain silver ring. In combat, he favors matte black tactical armor over a reinforced bodysuit, with ammunition pouches, a medical kit, heavy gloves, silent-soled boots, and a rune-etched rifle carried across his chest. In a traditional fantasy setting, these weapons are represented mechanically by a longbow, javelins, and a greatsword.
Mannerisms
Faro speaks in clipped sentences and rarely repeats himself. He checks exits without appearing to look, cleans his weapons when thinking, and presses his thumb against the silver ring on his right hand before making a difficult decision. When angry, he becomes quieter rather than louder.
Personality
Gruff, practical, and unshakably loyal, Faro speaks in a low rumble and wastes no words. He distrusts rank that has not been earned through hardship, respects people who keep their promises, and prefers decisive action over prolonged debate. Beneath his severe exterior is a careful protector who notices exhaustion, fear, and injury before anyone else does.
Ideals
Loyalty. A promise made under fire is worth more than any law, contract, or crown. Competence matters, courage matters, and anyone who stands the line beside him deserves to know he will still be there when the line breaks.
Bonds
The surviving members of Faro's old unit are his family. He will cross borders, break laws, and face impossible odds to bring one of them home. He also keeps a plain silver ring taken from a fallen comrade, a reminder that no mission is complete until everyone who can be saved is accounted for.
Flaws
Faro assumes that authority is corrupt until proven otherwise. He is slow to forgive mistakes, quicker to take responsibility than to accept an apology, and has a dangerous habit of treating every disagreement as a tactical problem. Once he decides someone is a liability, it takes extraordinary effort to change his mind.
Quirks
Background
Faro grew up on the edge of a hard-used frontier settlement where every adult knew how to repair a fence, dress a wound, and stand watch through the night. He learned early that strength was useful only when controlled. By the time he came of age, he had already served as a scout, sentry, and caravan guard. The army gave his instincts structure. He became an elite soldier, valued less for speeches than for the way he could keep a unit moving when fear had taken everyone else by the throat. He learned to trust the person beside him, to obey an order once it had been weighed, and to remember every name lost under his command.
“He learned early that strength was useful only when controlled.”
