Appearance
Bonnet is a lean, tawny-furred male tabaxi with dark brown rosettes along his shoulders, back, and tail. His large ears twitch constantly toward distant sounds, and his amber eyes are bright with patient curiosity. His broad feline jaw and prominent canines show clearly whenever he laughs or eats, giving his warm smile an unexpectedly formidable edge. His hands are especially distinctive, with thickened pads, blunt claws, and callused fingertips stained by years of grinding herbs, climbing stone, and practicing open-handed strikes. He wears simple saffron and brown traveling robes, a weathered sash, and a small bundle of dried plants tied at his hip.
Mannerisms
Bonnet pauses before answering difficult questions, closes his eyes, and takes three slow breaths as though tasting the air. He kneads his herbal pouch when nervous, cleans his claws with a sliver of bamboo after meals, and tilts his head toward whoever is speaking even when he already understands them. His laughter begins as a soft chirp and ends in a broad, toothy grin.
Personality
Bonnet is observant, gentle, and intensely curious. He prefers listening to speaking, but once a subject catches his interest, he can ask a relentless stream of precise questions. He treats injuries with calm concentration and danger with a quiet, almost scholarly focus. Although he enjoys solitude, he is deeply protective of vulnerable people and becomes unexpectedly fierce when someone uses knowledge to exploit the sick or helpless.
Ideals
Compassion. Suffering is not a lesson people must endure before they deserve help. If I can ease pain, I have a duty to do so, even when the work is difficult or thankless.
Bonds
The ruined monastery and Sister Vey's handwritten medical journals are sacred to Bonnet. He will risk much to protect healers, refugees, and anyone whose suffering is ignored because they are poor or inconvenient.
Flaws
Bonnet mistakes patience for moral superiority and can become quietly judgmental toward anyone who acts impulsively. He is also dangerously curious about rare poisons, unusual illnesses, and forbidden remedies, sometimes investigating them long after a wiser person would have walked away.
Quirks
Background
Bonnet was born among a wandering tabaxi caravan, where his restless curiosity made him a poor fit for a life measured in roads, markets, and stories already told. As a young cat, he followed a scent into a mountain ravine and found an abandoned monastery hidden behind a curtain of silver vines. The sole remaining monk, an elderly healer named Sister Vey, expected Bonnet to leave after one night. Instead, he stayed through the winter, then through the spring, learning that stillness could be more demanding than travel. Sister Vey taught him to turn curiosity into observation, observation into discipline, and discipline into compassion. For nearly seven years, Bonnet lived as a hermit in the ruined monastery. He cultivated medicinal plants, copied old remedies, and practiced striking hanging gourds until his paws became tough and precise. His most important discovery came when he realized that controlled breathing and pressure-point work could help draw certain poisons from the body when paired with the right herbs. When Sister Vey died, Bonnet left the monastery carrying her notes, a pouch of seeds, and a promise to bring his knowledge to people who could not reach a secluded healer. He now travels as a quiet protector and wandering physician, seeking both rare plants and the unseen causes of suffering.
