Appearance
Lute is a lithe, elegant Tabaxi with a coat resembling a clouded leopard, deep greys and blacks swirling through a cream background. They dress in an impeccably tailored navy doublet with gold filigree and silver buttons, favoring loose silk trousers that do not hinder their tail. They carry a silver-topped cane that serves as a focusing crystal for their magic, though they rarely need to wave it about to be persuasive.
Mannerisms
They often tilt their head to the side when listening, closing one eye as if focusing purely on the sound of the speaker's heart rate.
Personality
Refined and incredibly precise with their language, Lute speaks as if every sentence is a legal contract. They find direct conflict to be a sign of intellectual failure, preferring to talk their way through a locked door rather than kicking it down. They are a student of etiquette, watching social hierarchies with the same predatory focus a cat shows a mouse.
Ideals
Civilization. Language is the thin veneer that prevents us from falling back into the mud, and we must preserve the rules of discourse.
Bonds
I still owe a debt of gratitude to the Arch-Chamberlain who taught me that a whisper is louder than a roar.
Flaws
I am deeply uncomfortable in unsanitary environments and will prioritize my own comfort over practical survival.
Quirks
Background
Born in the coastal trade hubs of the South, Lute quickly realized that their natural feline grace was nothing compared to the power of a well placed word. They served as a junior envoy for a major merchant guild, negotiating complex treaties between disgruntled dwarven miners and elven lumber magnates. It was during these years that Lute discovered their voice had a literal magic to it, a resonance that could soothe a room or shatter a man's confidence. However, the stifling walls of the court began to feel like a cage. Lute realized that the most interesting stories, and the most influential secrets, were out in the world, not tucked away in dusty ledgers. They resigned their post, taking only their fine silks and a signet ring, to travel the realms as a freelance arbitrator. Now, they seek to test their eloquence against the chaos of adventuring, convinced that even a dragon can be reasoned with if one finds the right leverage.
