Appearance
Senna Kettig is a striking hill dwarf woman with a round face, high cheekbones, and a square jaw. Her chestnut hair is gathered into a loose braid that falls past her shoulders. Her dark brown eyes are sharp as flint, usually carrying equal measures of irritation and reluctant amusement. Her skin has a warm olive undertone, darker than most dwarves in the city, though lighter than her father's. She is compact, powerfully built, and visibly accustomed to hard labor and military discipline. A brass ring adorns her right ear. When off duty, she wears a deep blue tunic over a linen shirt, sturdy trousers held by leather braces, and heavy, polished boots. In armor, she carries herself with the solid confidence of someone born to stone and command.
Mannerisms
Senna studies ceilings, doorframes, and support beams whenever she enters a new space. She speaks in clipped, practical sentences, often resting one hand on the pommel of her sword even when there is no threat. When irritated, she rubs the brass ring in her right ear. When amused, she tries to hide her smile by taking a drink.
Personality
Senna is direct, observant, and difficult to impress. She has the dry patience of someone used to dangerous work and unreliable equipment. Though she often sounds annoyed, she is quietly attentive to the needs of others and remembers small details about the people under her protection. She distrusts grand speeches, inherited authority, and anyone who treats courage as an excuse for recklessness.
Ideals
Duty. A soldier's oath means protecting people, not merely following the order that was easiest to give.
Bonds
The miners and soldiers she failed to save at the Red Quarry remain her responsibility. She will risk herself to protect workers, refugees, and anyone abandoned by an institution that values property over lives.
Flaws
Senna has difficulty accepting orders from anyone she does not respect. When challenged, she becomes stubbornly certain that she alone is seeing the danger clearly, and she would rather endure a disastrous consequence than admit she was wrong too soon.
Quirks
Background
Senna Kettig is the only daughter of Chief Kettig of a prosperous hill-dwarf mining hold. Her father expected her to learn ledgers, clan law, and the patient politics of inheritance, but Senna found her place in the hold's shield companies instead. She learned to read a tunnel by its echoes, to judge a load-bearing pillar by touch, and to keep frightened miners moving when cave-ins turned familiar passages into graves. Her discipline earned her a place in the hold's border patrol, where she guarded caravans, escorted engineers, and fought raiders who believed a mining settlement would be easy prey. Her reputation changed during the Red Quarry Incident. A patrol under Senna's command was ordered to abandon trapped workers while protecting an important shipment. Senna disobeyed, led her soldiers into the collapsing quarry, and brought most of the workers out alive. The shipment was lost, two soldiers died, and her father publicly praised her courage while privately stripping her of command. Senna left the hold before the dispute could become a clan scandal. She now travels as a professional soldier, determined to prove that leadership is more than obedience and that her father's daughter can become something by her own judgment. She still sends a portion of every payment home, though she refuses to write about the men and women who did not make it out of the quarry.
“Her reputation changed during the Red Quarry Incident.”
