Appearance
A broad-shouldered human man with a battered nose, broken knuckles, a crooked grin, and a thick brown beard streaked with gray. Aldric wears patched chain mail over a stained linen shirt, carries a dented shield, and keeps his amateur fighting champion's leather winner belt wrapped around his waist. His eyes are tired but sharp, and he smells faintly of ale, leather, and woodsmoke.
Mannerisms
Aldric rolls his shoulders and cracks his knuckles before any confrontation, even when no fight is expected. He taps the side of an empty bottle before using it as a weapon, as though thanking it for its service. When sober, he speaks too quickly and avoids eye contact. After a drink, he becomes calm, direct, and strangely formal.
Personality
Aldric is blunt, warm-hearted, and fiercely protective of anyone being pushed around. He treats tavern staff, stable hands, farmers, and guards with equal respect, but has no patience for bullies or nobles who have never gone hungry. He is surprisingly observant during a fight, using tables, mugs, bottles, stools, sacks, and loose boards with practiced creativity. He claims that drinking makes him look and fight exactly as he does when sober, although everyone who knows him can tell that sobriety makes him slower, weaker, and much more miserable.
Ideals
Freedom. No lord, lawman, guildmaster, or priest has the right to decide who deserves dignity. Aldric will always side with ordinary people against those who use power to crush them.
Bonds
Aldric will defend his home village and the common people who raised him, even when they cannot repay him. He keeps his winner's belt as proof that a poor village fighter can stand against anyone, and he intends to return home one day with enough coin to rebuild the village tavern that burned down during a raid.
Flaws
Aldric is dependent on alcohol and insists he cannot work properly without being drunk. A moderate amount makes him appear steady and lets him fight with his usual skill, but too much makes him sloppy, loud, and dangerously overconfident. When completely sober, he becomes anxious, irritable, and convinced that everyone can see how much weaker he feels.
Quirks
Background
Aldric Tunberg was born in a small farming village where his family repaired wagons, barrels, and whatever else the neighbors could not afford to replace. He learned early that a strong back and a stubborn heart could solve most problems, though neither was as reliable as a good drink. Aldric discovered his talent for fighting during a tavern brawl that began over a stolen harvest and ended with him defeating three local bullies using only his fists, a barstool, and the empty bottle he had just finished. The villagers later entered him in an amateur fighting competition, where his reckless style and iron endurance carried him to victory. He still wears the winner's belt, though it is faded, cracked, and repaired with bootlaces.
