Appearance
Gorstine is a broad-shouldered male tabaxi with tawny fur marked by dark rosettes, a heavy ruff around his neck, and long, powerful limbs built for climbing and marching. Years of military service have weathered his muzzle and roughened the pads of his hands. He speaks in a low, deliberate growl, usually with slow measured breaths, but his breathing becomes sharply audible through his nose when anger or uncertainty breaks through his discipline. He wears well-maintained chain mail beneath a dark green military cloak, with a greatsword across his back and handaxes at his belt.
Mannerisms
Gorstine stands unnaturally still when listening, his tail wrapped tightly around one ankle. He checks the alignment of weapons and belt buckles whenever he enters a room. His voice remains calm during threats, but his nostrils flare and his breathing turns clipped and audible when he is rattled.
Personality
Gorstine is disciplined, observant, and formal. He treats conversation like a military briefing, asking direct questions and disliking unnecessary emotional display. He respects competence regardless of species or social rank, but he respects obedience even more. He is capable of loyalty, though he expresses it through orders, criticism, and ensuring that his companions are properly equipped.
Ideals
Order. The world is safest when every person knows their place and every command is obeyed without hesitation.
Bonds
His old regiment gave him purpose and status. Gorstine intends to rebuild its influence under his own command, even if doing so requires sacrificing former comrades or using adventurers as expendable assets.
Flaws
He believes compassion is usually a disguise for weakness and has little patience for anyone who disobeys a clear order. When frightened, he becomes more rigid and cruel, mistaking control for competence.
Quirks
Background
Gorstine was raised among a tabaxi caravan that measured worth in useful hands and reliable promises. He discovered early that the fastest way to gain security was not through affection, but through obedience made visible. He joined a border regiment as soon as he was old enough to carry a pack, becoming an exceptionally capable scout and shock trooper. His strength made him valuable in close combat, while his feline patience allowed him to wait motionless for hours before reporting exactly what he had seen. He learned to regard every patrol, village, and commander as part of a larger machine, and he developed a deep contempt for people who valued freedom more than order.
