- Divine SenseLevel 1
As an action, you can open your awareness to detect strong celestial, fiendish, or undead presence. Until the end of your next turn, you know the location of any such creature within 60 feet that is not behind total cover, and you know the creature's type. You can use this feature a number of times equal to 1 plus your Charisma modifier, with a minimum of once. You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
- Lay on HandsLevel 1
Your blessed touch can heal wounds. You have a pool of healing power that replenishes when you finish a long rest. With that pool, you can restore a total number of hit points equal to 5 times your paladin level. As an action, you can touch a creature and draw power from the pool to restore hit points, up to the maximum remaining in your pool. This feature has no effect on undead or constructs.

Appearance
A broad-shouldered human man with sun-browned skin, dark brown hair kept short at the sides, and a neatly trimmed beard. His chain mail sits beneath a faded green surcoat that was clearly tailored for someone larger, leaving the sleeves slightly too long. He keeps the cuffs carefully mended with pale thread and polishes his wooden shield far more often than his sword. His voice is low and measured, with a faint Levantine cadence, but when startled he draws a quick breath through his nose before speaking too rapidly. Small sprigs of dried rosemary and juniper are tucked into the cord around his shield grip.
Mannerisms
Nadim pauses to identify unfamiliar birds by their calls, even during tense conversations. When considering a difficult choice, he rubs the edge of his shield with his thumb. When angered, his normally careful speech becomes quick and densely packed with quotations from old texts.
Personality
Quietly observant and more comfortable with a field guide than a formal sermon, Nadim listens before he acts. He is patient with frightened animals and inexperienced people, but becomes stern when someone treats knowledge or living creatures carelessly. His humor is dry and unexpectedly warm, usually appearing after a long silence.
Ideals
Stewardship. Knowledge and strength are duties, not possessions. Those who are capable of protecting the vulnerable must do so, whether the vulnerable are villagers, beasts, or forgotten truths.
Bonds
The overgrown shrine where he first found the warden inscriptions must be restored, and he carries one broken piece of its boundary stone as a reminder. He is also determined to repay the old sage who gave him a place among books when no one else understood his interests.
Flaws
He distrusts confident answers that are not supported by evidence, and can waste precious time researching a problem that demands immediate action. He is also quietly resentful of people who treat animals, forests, or ancient knowledge as disposable resources.

Background
Nadim Varek grew up at the edge of a wooded frontier where farmers, trappers, and shrine keepers depended on one another to survive. His mother gathered medicinal plants, while his father maintained the old boundary stones that marked protected nesting grounds and sacred groves. As a boy, Nadim learned the names of local beasts before he learned the names of distant kings. He also learned that nature was not gentle, but that cruelty and balance were not the same thing. After a hunting expedition uncovered the remains of an abandoned roadside shrine, Nadim began studying its weathered inscriptions under the guidance of a traveling sage. The texts described an ancient order of wardens who protected settlements through disciplined arms, sacred vows, and carefully observed animal lore. Nadim joined a small temple library as an assistant, copying manuscripts and cataloguing accounts of unusual beasts. His training eventually led him to the paladin's path, though his faith is expressed less through grand speeches than through patient protection, practical mercy, and reverence for living things. He now travels to find lost knowledge about the order, defend vulnerable communities, and prove that strength can serve the wild without trying to dominate it.
