Appearance
Kito Gát wears a practical suit of dark wood, brass fittings, and weathered iron plates, with warm amber lenses set into a narrow, expressive faceplate. His left shoulder bears the stamped emblem of a guild workshop, partly filed away and replaced with a hand-painted geometric pattern. He is compact and broad through the chest, with a slightly uneven gait caused by a constantly recalibrating hip joint. Within a minute of meeting him, most people notice his deliberate pause before speaking, followed by a soft intake of air through a grille that he does not need. His fingers are fitted with interchangeable tool tips, and faint blue sparks sometimes escape from the seams of his forearms when he becomes excited.
Mannerisms
Before answering a question, Kito pauses as if consulting an internal schematic, then draws a quiet breath through his throat grille. He tilts his head when listening, favors his right leg while standing, and taps a tool against his palm whenever he is thinking through a problem.
Personality
Kito is patient with machines, children, and anyone who admits they do not understand something. He is less patient with status, ceremony, and people who use complicated language to disguise selfish motives. He enjoys practical jokes that reveal hidden mechanisms, keeps careful accounts of every favor, and becomes animated when discussing clever repairs. Beneath his measured voice is an intense curiosity about choice, identity, and the strange habits of organic life.
Ideals
Freedom. A crafted being is not the property of its maker, and no worker should be treated as a replaceable part. Every person deserves the right to choose what they become.
Bonds
The apprentices who helped him escape are still marked as accomplices by the guild. Kito sends them money and coded letters whenever he can, and he will risk almost anything to keep them safe. He is also determined to discover who designed his core, not to learn whether he was made for a purpose, but to decide for himself what that purpose will be.
Flaws
Kito is so determined not to be owned, ordered, or categorized that he sometimes rejects sensible help simply because it was offered as an instruction. He also hides uncertainty behind technical explanations, and can become coldly argumentative when someone suggests that his choices are predetermined by his construction.
Quirks
Background
Kito Gát was assembled in a riverside workshop to serve as a precision assistant for a guild of clockmakers, locksmiths, and instrument makers. He learned by observing human hands, memorizing the rhythm of their labor, and quietly correcting mistakes before anyone noticed them. The guild treated him as a valuable craftsman, but not always as a person. When a young apprentice was blamed for a dangerous design flaw, Kito broke guild protocol, presented his own evidence, and exposed that the senior master had concealed the error to protect his reputation. The master demanded Kito's dismantling. The apprentices helped him escape instead. Now Kito travels as a freelance artificer, carrying the tools of his former guild and a half-finished device whose purpose he has never explained. He believes the machine may contain fragments of the instructions used to create him, but he refuses to let the search become an excuse for treating other people as components. He takes honest commissions, repairs what others discard, and has a particular fondness for building small devices that give ordinary workers more control over their lives. His craftsmanship is meticulous, but his morality is deliberately unruly. If a law protects exploitation, Kito considers breaking it a form of maintenance.
