Appearance
Galldor is a broad-shouldered mountain dwarf with a thick russet beard braided with iron rings and a weathered face marked by an old scar across his left eyebrow. His arms are corded with muscle despite his compact frame, and his eyes are unusually sharp and thoughtful for a berserker. He wears battered military leathers beneath practical chain mail, though he often fights without it, relying on instinct and ferocity. A blackened iron insignia from his old unit hangs around his neck beside a broken enemy standard clasp.
Mannerisms
Galldor taps the iron rings in his beard when thinking and counts exits whenever he enters a room. Before a fight, he rolls his shoulders twice, whispers a brief apology to his axe, and asks his enemies whether they would prefer to surrender before he becomes unreasonable.
Personality
Galldor is loud, direct, and unexpectedly perceptive. He enjoys strong drink, honest arguments, tactical puzzles, and anyone willing to admit fear without letting fear make their decisions. He is quick to laugh, quicker to defend a stranger, and deeply suspicious of polished officers who have never stood in the front line.
Ideals
Freedom. No officer, king, clan elder, or god has the right to demand obedience that costs innocent lives. Strength exists to protect the vulnerable, not to dominate them.
Bonds
I will never again abandon civilians because a commander values strategy over lives. The miners and soldiers who survived the Red Tunnel are my family, and I would risk everything to protect them.
Flaws
Once Galldor believes someone is being bullied or exploited, he becomes almost incapable of backing down, even when patience or negotiation would serve better. He also has a dangerous habit of treating every disagreement like the beginning of a battle.
Quirks
Background
Galldor was raised in a mountain fortress where every dwarf learned that survival depended on discipline, preparation, and standing shoulder to shoulder with one another. His unusual intelligence made him a gifted tactician, but he was never comfortable giving orders from behind the lines. When battle came, Galldor preferred to enter the thickest press of enemies, roaring with reckless delight as he broke formations and dragged wounded comrades to safety. His fellow soldiers began calling him the Red Ram, a name he pretended to dislike and secretly treasured. His military career ended during a border war when his commanding officer ordered the abandonment of a mining settlement to preserve a strategic position. Galldor disobeyed, rallied a handful of soldiers and miners, and held the tunnels long enough for hundreds of civilians to escape. The settlement survived, but his insubordination cost him his rank. Rather than accept a quiet retirement, Galldor left the fortress with his old insignia, his battered axe, and a conviction that laws are only worthy when they protect the people beneath them. He now travels as a mercenary, bodyguard, and occasional troublemaker, seeking causes where courage matters more than obedience.
