  • Hack and Slash

When When you attack an enemy in melee

When you attack an enemy in melee, roll+STR. On a 10+, you deal your damage to the enemy and avoid their attack. At your option, you may do +1d6 damage but expose yourself to the enemy’s attack. On a 7-9, you deal your damage to the enemy and the enemy makes an attack against you.

  • Volley

When When you take aim and shoot at an enemy at range

When you take aim and shoot at an enemy at range, roll+DEX. On a 10+, you have a clear shot, deal your damage, and avoid danger. On a 7-9, choose one: you have to move to get the shot, you have to take what you can get with -1d6 damage, or you have to deal with the danger of your shot before you can fire.

  • Defy Danger

When When you act despite an imminent threat or suffer a calamity

When you act despite an imminent threat or suffer a calamity, say how you deal with it and roll. On a 10+, you do what you set out to do and avoid the threat. On a 7-9, you stumble, hesitate, or flinch, and the GM will offer you a worse outcome, hard bargain, or ugly choice.

  • Defend

When When you stand in defense of a person, item, or location under attack

When you stand in defense of a person, item, or location under attack, roll+CON. On a 10+, hold 3. On a 7-9, hold 1. While defending, when you or the thing you defend is attacked, spend hold to choose one: redirect the attack to yourself, halve the attack’s effect or damage, open the attacker up to an ally, or deal damage to the attacker equal to your level.

  • Spout Lore

When When you consult your accumulated knowledge about something

When you consult your accumulated knowledge about something, roll+INT. On a 10+, the GM will tell you something interesting and useful about the subject. On a 7-9, the GM will only tell you something interesting. On a miss, the GM’s move may reveal an uncomfortable truth.

  • Discern Realities

When When you closely study a person, situation, or place

When you closely study a person, situation, or place, roll+WIS. On a 10+, ask the GM three questions from the list. On a 7-9, ask one. Take +1 forward when acting on the answers: What happened here recently? What is about to happen? What should I be on the lookout for? What here is not what it appears to be? What is the true intention of this? What is the best way in?

  • Parley

When When you have leverage on a GM character and manipulate them

When you have leverage on a GM character and manipulate them, roll+CHA. Leverage is something they need or want. On a 10+, they do what you ask if you first assure them you will do what they ask. On a 7-9, they will do what you ask, but first they need concrete assurance of your promise.

  • Burning Brand

When When you conjure a weapon of pure flame

When you conjure a weapon of pure flame, roll+CON. On a 10+, choose two of the following tags. On a 7-9, choose one. You may treat your INT as your STR or DEX when making attacks with this weapon. The weapon always begins with the fiery, touch, dangerous, and 3 uses tags. Each attack with the weapon consumes one use. Choose from: hand, thrown near, +1 damage, or remove the dangerous tag. On a 6-, the GM makes a move.

  • Fighting Fire with Fire

When When you take odd damage after armor

When you take damage and that damage is odd after armor, roll 1d4. Choose one: add that many uses to your burning brand if it is active, take that result forward to summon your burning brand, or reduce the damage by that amount.

  • Zuko Style

When When you bend a flame to your will

When you bend a flame to your will, roll+WIS. On a 10+, it does as you command, taking the shape and movement you desire for as long as it has fuel on which to burn. On a 7-9, the effect is short-lived, lasting only a moment. On a 6-, the GM makes a move.

  • Give Me Fuel, Give Me Fire

When When you gaze intensely into someone’s eyes

When you gaze intensely into someone’s eyes, you may ask their player, “What fuels the flames of your desire?” They answer truthfully, even if the character does not know or would otherwise keep it hidden.

  • Hand Crafted

When When you shape or unmake mundane metal objects with your hands

You may use your hands in place of tools and fire to craft metal objects. Mundane weapons, armor, and metal jewelry can be formed from their raw components. You may also unmake these things, though doing so without time and safety might require you to Defy Danger first.

  • Human Resilience

When When you Make Camp next to a large, open flame

When you Make Camp next to a large, open flame, regain all of your HP.

  • TraitHumanWhen you Make Camp next to a large, open flame, regain all of your HP.

Appearance

Strange brands along his forearms, smouldering brown eyes, a crackling voice that has not quite settled, and a wiry build made lean by too many nights on the road. He wears a soot-stained linen shirt, a patched red scarf, loose trousers, and a belt hung with small iron charms. His hair is dark, thick, and always singed at the ends.

Mannerisms

He rubs the iron sun-disc with his thumb when anxious, speaks faster when frightened, and unconsciously warms nearby metal when angry.

Personality

Giorgi is protective, sharp-tongued, and deeply practical beneath his frightened exterior. He complains constantly about the danger, the food, the weather, and especially Nino’s decisions, but he is the first person to step toward a fire if someone else is trapped beyond it.

Ideals

Spread a dangerous new idea. Giorgi believes the old rules of the world are already failing, and someone must be willing to light the first match.

Bonds

____ has felt the hellish touch of my fire, and now they know I will protect them even when I complain. I will teach ____ that sacrifice is not the same thing as surrender. I cast something precious into the fire for ____ and still owe them their due.

Flaws

He is stubborn to the point of recklessness, especially when Nino is involved. Giorgi mistrusts anyone who sounds too certain about destiny, and his temper can turn a small disagreement into a dangerous blaze.

Quirks

Names every flame he creates, usually after someone he is angry with.
Keeps one of Nino’s mismatched earrings tied to his belt.
Counts doorways aloud before entering them.

Background

Giorgi Ariztua never meant to cross the old stone threshold beneath the hill. His sister, Nino, had found the doorway first, of course, and insisted that the blue fire behind it was calling her by name. Giorgi argued, pleaded, and finally followed her because leaving Nino alone with a mysterious doorway had always seemed more dangerous than whatever waited beyond it. The passage folded around them, the world went white, and they emerged beneath an unfamiliar sky where the stars were wrong. Nino vanished almost immediately into the ruins of a realm that seemed to be burning from the inside out. Giorgi found her trail in blackened footprints and learned that the fire now answering his hands was not ordinary flame. It responds to fear, anger, and sacrifice, growing brighter whenever he thinks of abandoning her. He does not want to be a hero, prophet, or weapon. He wants to find his sister, drag her home, and make sure she survives long enough to complain about the journey.
