Features
7 featuresAction
- Divine SenseLevel 1
As an action, Azaraphale can open his awareness to detect strong evil until the end of his next turn. He knows the location of any celestial, fiend, or undead within 60 feet that is not behind total cover, and he knows the type of any being whose presence he senses, but not its identity. He can use this feature a number of times equal to 1 plus his Charisma modifier, with a minimum of once, and regains all expended uses after a long rest.
- Lay on HandsLevel 1
Azaraphale's blessed touch can heal wounds. He has a pool of healing power that restores a total of 5 hit points. As an action, he can touch a creature and draw power from the pool to restore any number of hit points up to the remaining amount. Alternatively, he can spend 5 hit points from the pool to cure one disease or neutralize one poison. This feature has no effect on undead or constructs, and the pool replenishes after a long rest.
- TraitDragonbornBreath Weapon, as an action, exhale fire in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in the area must make a DC 11 Dexterity saving throw, taking 2d6 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. The breath can be used once per short or long rest.

Appearance
Azaraphale is a tall, broad-shouldered red dragonborn with burnished copper-red scales, swept-back horns, and steady amber eyes. His scales are dulled slightly along his forearms and shoulders by years of travel, training, and harsh weather. He wears immaculate chain mail beneath a deep blue surcoat bearing the golden flame insignia of House Ignis. His shield is polished obsessively, while his boots and cloak show careful repairs from life on the road. He carries himself with formal dignity, chin raised and shoulders squared, even when exhausted.
Mannerisms
Azaraphale gives a restrained bow or formal nod whenever he is introduced, even in mud or rain. He regularly adjusts the alignment of his shield straps and surcoat before speaking, and addresses strangers with ceremonious titles until invited to do otherwise. When angered, his voice becomes quieter and more precise rather than louder.
Personality
I present myself with noble elegance and pride. I demand high standards from myself and expect proper decorum from others. Beneath his formality, Azaraphale is disciplined, protective, and deeply uncomfortable with helplessness. He is courteous to commoners who show courage, but he can become stiff and condescending when he believes someone is careless, vulgar, or dishonorable.
Ideals
Respect. Respect is due to me because of my high position, but all people of dignity deserve fair treatment. A noble title means nothing if it is not used to protect those without one.
Bonds
My ancestral estate was pillaged by an orc warband. I have sworn to protect the innocent, restore the honor of House Ignis, and hold the line against orcish cruelty.
Flaws
My deep-seated hatred for orcs clouds my judgment. When orcs are present, I become recklessly hostile, quick to assume the worst and too eager to answer every threat with force.

Background
Born into the proud Draconic House of Ignis, Azaraphale was raised in a border estate where ceremony was treated as seriously as swordsmanship. His tutors taught him the histories of ancient dragonborn lineages, while his household knights drilled him in mounted combat, shield work, and the responsibilities of noble protection. He learned early that a title was not merely an ornament. It was a promise that those beneath its banner would not be abandoned. That promise was tested when an orc warband descended upon the estate. The defenders fought bravely, but the manor was pillaged, the family lands were ruined, and many of the household staff and tenants were killed or scattered. Azaraphale survived by leading refugees through the wilderness, relying on the tracking and fieldcraft he had once considered beneath his station. In the aftermath, he swore to defend the innocent, preserve lawful order, and stand against orcish cruelty wherever it threatened the realm. He now travels as a newly trained paladin, seeking deeds worthy of the Ignis name and the trust of the people he protects. He is determined to rebuild his reputation through service, though his hatred of orcs remains a dangerous ember beneath his polished manners. Azaraphale wants justice, but he must learn to distinguish justice from vengeance before that ember consumes his oath.
“He learned early that a title was not merely an ornament.”
