Raised by the cold stones and the local orphan gangs, he realized early that survival depended on perception and influence rather than muscle. He became a self-styled leader of the city's 'lost ones,' teaching them how to move unseen and negotiate for scraps from the noble quarters. While other elves learned the arts of music or weaving, Valerius learned the art of the longbow to defend his small territory from older, more aggressive thugs.
