Appearance
Celia is a lean, wiry tiefling with dusky crimson skin, swept-back black horns, and pale amber eyes that seem to glow whenever she invokes her patron's power. Her dark hair is cropped unevenly around her jaw, and a thin, spaded tail curls beneath a weather-stained charcoal cloak. She wears practical leather armor concealed beneath layers of burglar's clothing, with a brass infernal sigil sewn inside one glove.
Mannerisms
Celia rolls a dagger across her knuckles when thinking, taps twice on every locked door before opening it, and speaks to her invisible patron as though arguing with an irritating business partner. She rarely sits with her back to a room.
Personality
Celia is observant, dryly witty, and intensely self-reliant. She treats every conversation like a negotiation and notices exits, valuables, and concealed weapons without appearing to look. Beneath her guarded exterior, she has a fierce sympathy for outcasts and an awkward habit of helping people anonymously, then denying she had anything to do with it.
Ideals
Freedom. No god, devil, monarch, or employer has the right to own another person's choices. Celia will break any chain she can reach, even if the escape is dangerous.
Bonds
She keeps the original black iron contract hidden in a locked compartment and intends to destroy it before the Ashen Advocate can claim her soul. She also feels responsible for the surviving members of her old burglary crew, even though she pretends to have abandoned them.
Flaws
Celia cannot resist stealing something small from anyone who acts entitled, even when doing so jeopardizes an otherwise perfect plan. She is suspicious of kindness, terrified of being controlled, and likely to make a reckless bargain rather than admit she needs help.
Quirks
Background
Celia learned early that a tiefling in a respectable neighborhood was expected to apologize for existing. She answered that expectation by becoming useful in the shadows. As a teenager, she joined a burglary ring that specialized in robbing corrupt magistrates, predatory lenders, and wealthy merchants who treated the poor as inventory. Celia was the lockpicker and lookout, valued for her patience, sharp memory, and refusal to panic when plans went wrong. During a disastrous burglary beneath an old courthouse, Celia found a black iron contract hidden behind a false wall. The document was written in Infernal and addressed to an entity known as the Ashen Advocate, a fiend who offered power in exchange for secrets stolen from those who believed themselves untouchable. Celia accepted before she fully understood the terms. Her first eldritch invocation saved her crew, but the magic also exposed that one of them had betrayed the others. Since then, Celia has worked alone, taking jobs that let her undermine people she considers cruel while avoiding the growing debt owed to her patron. She insists she is nobody's servant, even as the infernal voice in her dreams reminds her that every favor has a price.
“She answered that expectation by becoming useful in the shadows.”
