Appearance
Arihual is a small, quick-bodied lizardfolk with the broad frill and three blunt horns of a triceratops, set above a nimble, lemur-like torso, long balancing tail, and dexterous hands. Olive-green scales fade to pale gold along the throat. Their palms are smooth from handling prayer beads and seedlings, but their fingertips are permanently darkened with soil. Before speaking, they take a quiet, birdlike breath through the nose, then let their words emerge in a low, careful rasp.
Mannerisms
Pauses for a small nose-breath before answering, as though testing the air for the right words. Their hands are almost always busy, turning a bead, smoothing a leaf, or brushing soil from a fingertip.
Personality
Gentle and curious, Arihual treats every creature as a neighbor whose habits are worth learning. They are unexpectedly persistent about small practical kindnesses, and listen longer than most people expect.
Ideals
Living balance. A community is healthiest when it makes room for the needs of the small, the strange, and the inconvenient, not only the powerful.
Bonds
The reed-garden shrine that raised them still tends a spring shared by people and beasts. Arihual sends home seeds and letters, and intends to return with knowledge that will keep the spring alive.
Flaws
They assume patient listening will resolve any conflict, and can wait too long to act when decisive force is needed. They also feel compelled to feed or shelter any animal they encounter, even when it is dangerous or impractical.
Quirks
Background
Arihual grew up among the reed gardens and limestone hollows of a river settlement, where their people left bowls of water for thirsty travelers and wild animals alike. Their unusual triceratops brow made them awkward in the low doorways of the settlement's shrine, so they learned to duck early and to notice who else was being asked to make themselves smaller. They became a temple helper, tending seedlings, cleaning votive bowls, and learning the names people gave the river's creatures. When a dry season drove animals and villagers toward the same dwindling springs, Arihual found that calm hands and a patient voice could prevent more harm than a spear. A wandering Nature priest recognized that instinct and taught them a few old prayers that seemed to wake the green world around them. Arihual now travels with a small holy symbol and a stubborn hope: that disputes can be softened before they become wounds, and that even the overlooked little things deserve a guardian.
