Appearance
A lean, weather-hardened tiefling with umber-red skin, swept-back black hair, and small ivory horns worn smooth at the tips from years of travel beneath helmets and hoods. Their amber eyes are sharp and restless, constantly measuring ridgelines, exits, and changes in the wind. Their tail is long and expressive, usually wrapped once around a belt or pack strap when they are standing still. Sun, dust, and cold have roughened their hands and darkened the backs of their neck and forearms. Within minutes of meeting them, most people notice their habit of checking the fastening of a glove, strap, or scabbard whenever a conversation turns tense.
Mannerisms
Azaivara keeps their body angled toward the nearest open ground and rarely sits with their back to a door. When listening, they tilt their head toward distant sounds rather than looking directly at the speaker. Their fingers routinely test buckles, bowstring tension, and glove seams without conscious thought.
Personality
Observant, dryly humorous, and fiercely protective. Azaivara speaks plainly, dislikes ceremonial politeness, and notices practical details that others overlook. They are slow to trust officers, nobles, and anyone who calls sacrifice necessary without naming who will pay it. Around frightened people, however, their voice becomes patient and steady, shaped by years of guiding exhausted soldiers through dangerous country.
Ideals
Freedom. No order, law, or tradition is worth more than the lives it claims to protect.
Bonds
I still carry the torn field map of the village I saved, and I will return someday to learn whether its people survived.
Flaws
I assume every chain of command is one bad order away from becoming cruel, and I often challenge authority before I understand the whole situation.

Background
Azaivara grew up among the dry hills and abandoned caravan roads beyond the settled heartlands of Faerun. Their infernal blood made them a convenient scout for officers who valued results more than comfort. They learned to read bootprints in shale, find water beneath thorn scrub, and judge an ambush by the silence of birds. During years of service, they became the person sent ahead of the column, the first to see an enemy camp and the last to leave a broken patrol behind. They left the army after an order condemned a remote village as expendable. Azaivara disobeyed, guided the villagers through a salt waste, and returned alone to deliver a report that their commanders chose to bury. Rather than accept a promotion bought with silence, they deserted and disappeared into the hills. Now they travel the deserted wastes and borderlands of Faerun as a ranger, hunting raiders, monsters, and officers who mistake distance for law. Their old military skills remain, but their loyalty belongs to people in danger, not to banners.
