Appearance
Drago is a broad-shouldered half-orc with olive-gray skin, a square jaw, and small lower tusks that show when he speaks. His dark hair is shaved close at the sides and tied into a short, practical knot. He wears scale mail beneath a soot-dark leather apron, with a brass gear clasp worn smooth where his left thumb repeatedly rubs it. His hands are heavily callused, stained with blue-black metal polish, and marked by tiny burns from experimental mechanisms. His voice is low and breathy, with a faint sibilant rasp. When calm, he speaks slowly and precisely. When rattled, his breath catches between words and he begins whispering measurements under his breath.
Mannerisms
Drago tests the balance of every object placed in his hand. He taps metal surfaces with one knuckle before trusting them, and he pauses to breathe through his nose whenever someone raises their voice. When concentrating, he silently shapes technical words with his lips.
Personality
Drago is patient with machines and unexpectedly gentle with frightened people, but he becomes cold and exacting around wasteful craftsmanship or careless authority. He treats every problem as something that can be disassembled into smaller parts. He enjoys dry humor, speaks more warmly to animals and apprentices than to nobles, and takes quiet pride in making ugly but dependable objects.
Ideals
Useful things are worth more than impressive things. A device should make someone's life safer, easier, or more honest, or it should not be built.
Bonds
He carries the damaged pressure core from his destroyed workshop and will risk almost anything to restore the guild's lost furnace. He is fiercely loyal to apprentices, laborers, and anyone dismissed as unsuitable for skilled work.
Flaws
He cannot leave a broken mechanism alone, even when repairing it is dangerous, rude, or strategically foolish. Drago also assumes that anyone with social rank is hiding incompetence behind polished clothes and confident speech.
Quirks
Background
Drago was raised in a riverside smithing quarter where half-orc children were expected to become laborers, guards, or soldiers. He showed little interest in making ordinary blades. Instead, he dismantled locks, mills, crossbows, and clockwork toys to learn why they failed. His first true invention was a hand-cranked bellows that could keep a forge hot through an entire night. The guild master who recognized his talent gave him a place at the workbench, though not everyone there accepted an orc-blooded apprentice as a peer. Years later, Drago's workshop was destroyed when a merchant demanded a weaponized mining engine and ignored Drago's warnings about its unstable pressure chamber. Drago survived by sealing himself inside the engine's maintenance housing, but the guild lost its finest furnace and several people lost their livelihoods. He left with his tools, his debts, and a stubborn conviction that useful craft should protect ordinary people rather than enrich reckless patrons. His current companion, a brass-and-iron steel defender shaped like a squat six-legged hound, contains the last working core from that ruined machine. Drago adventures to recover rare materials, repay the guild, and prove that his inventions can be trusted in the hands of those who need them most.
