Appearance
Viktor is a lean tiefling with deep crimson skin, swept-back black horns, and eyes like banked coals that never quite seem to trust a room. His right forearm is ringed with burn scars and fine rune marks from old bondage magic, now partly hidden beneath a bracer of brass gears and copper filigree. He dresses in practical travel leathers under a patched scale mail hauberk, with a tool belt packed tight with chisels, calipers, wire spools, and half-finished devices.
Mannerisms
He rarely sits still, always adjusting a hinge, polishing a tool, or testing the weight of a gadget in his palm. When someone mentions magic, his jaw tightens and he answers in clipped sentences, but when discussing machinery his voice becomes precise and almost reverent.
Personality
Viktor is guarded, brilliant, and stubbornly practical. He distrusts authority, respects competence, and prefers problems with bolts and seams because they can be taken apart. Beneath his sharp edges is a protective streak that makes him quietly generous to the vulnerable, especially anyone who reminds him of himself.
Ideals
Freedom. No sentient being should be bound by force, whether by chains, contracts, or enchantment. If Viktor must build a hundred devices to break one cruel system, he will call it a fair price.
Bonds
He keeps a hidden brass token stamped with the crest of his old captors, not as a trophy, but as proof that he will one day destroy the last remnant of their order. He protects escaped slaves, runaways, and anyone treated as property with an intensity that can border on recklessness.
Flaws
He assumes every formal mage is hiding a cage behind their smile, and he can become cold, sarcastic, or openly hostile before giving them a fair chance. When angered, he sometimes sabotages a problem instead of solving it cleanly, because ruining a tyrant feels better than being elegant.
Quirks
Background
Viktor was born under a sky he never learned to love, because the first people who shaped his life did so with chains and spellwork. A circle of casters bought him as a curiosity, a useful set of hands, and a convenient target for their lessons in obedience. They marked him, commanded him, and broke every lesson into the same cruel shape, that magic was for masters and suffering was for everyone else. He survived by watching closely, by remembering every rune, every component, every weakness in the enchantments used against him. He escaped by building something small enough to hide in a meal tray and clever enough to ruin a ward stone. Freedom did not make him gentle, but it made him deliberate. Viktor turned his bitterness into invention, using salvaged scrap and stubborn genius to make tools that could pry apart locks, blind spell circles, and turn hostile magic back on its caster. He now wanders as an outlander because walls feel like cages, and he walks the wilds with a hunter's caution, a mechanic's patience, and a private vow to make sure no one is ever owned by a wizard again.
