Appearance

A broad, compact dwarf with a carefully squared beard and hair combed flat beneath a plain iron circlet. He keeps his mail brushed clean but mended, and smells distinctly of beeswax, wool, and the sharp soap he uses on his hands. His expression is steady, but his jaw tightens whenever the powerful mistake patience for surrender.

Mannerisms

He listens without interrupting, then asks one short question that cuts to what a person actually saw. Before making a promise, he rubs the edge of his holy symbol with his thumb.

Personality

Plain-spoken and patient with ordinary folk, Braxtor gives people room to tell their story in their own words. He has little patience for polished excuses, and his quiet manner can turn hard as a shut door when someone invokes status to evade responsibility.

Ideals

Justice must be blind to wealth and station. The law is worth defending only when it protects those who cannot buy their way clear.

Bonds

He keeps his family’s cracked cooking spoon wrapped in cloth, a homely relic he carries as a reminder of whom justice is for. He has sworn to return with the truth, not merely revenge, and to make the people responsible answer where everyone can hear.

Flaws

When he finds someone shielding a crime with rank or wealth, he can mistake refusing to yield for being right. He sometimes pushes witnesses too hard, believing that a painful truth now is kinder than a lie that lasts.

Quirks

Keeps a small scrap of clean cloth to wipe dust from his holy symbol.
Counts a witness’s pauses as carefully as their words.
Will mend a strap or a loose buckle while waiting for someone to answer.

Background

Braxtor Stoneheld was born into a family that measured wealth in sound roofs, full stew pots, and the tools they could afford to mend rather than replace. Their small home stood near the quarry road, where dust settled on the wash and the rich passed in covered carts. When a powerful household’s agents came to collect on a debt the family did not owe, the visit ended in an unspeakable crime and a silence bought with threats. Braxtor was left with no proof that would survive a court shaped by money. So, he joined in the service of Tyr where he studied and devoted himself to the law and the art of war, both of which he proved to be an adept student. He slowly worked his way into higher offices within the temple and began representing the temple's interests in the high courts of the city. His agenda was two-fold however; 1 to protect the temple at all costs and his mentor and temple cleric, Belthazar the Pure while 2 seeking justice for his family. The truth will be known.
