Appearance

Kezgati is a strikingly beautiful orc woman, very lean and heavily muscled, with broad shoulders, a narrow waist, long limbs, and powerful definition across her arms, back, and abdomen. Her skin is deep olive green, marked by old pale scars from military campaigns. She has a strong jaw, high cheekbones, a broad nose, tusks filed only slightly at the tips, and dark copper eyes that remain unnervingly calm until her rage takes hold. She has diphallia, which she regards as an ordinary fact of her body rather than a source of shame or spectacle. In battle she wears layered barbarian furs over a scarred leather harness, leaving her arms free, and fights with a handaxe in each hand.

Mannerisms

Kezgati performs silent drill movements whenever she is thinking, rolling her shoulders, checking her footing, or tracing attack patterns with two fingers. She speaks softly until someone threatens a companion, at which point every word becomes clipped and formal. Before a fight, she touches each axe to her brow, then smiles as though greeting an old friend.

Personality

Kezgati is disciplined, observant, and unexpectedly gentle with the frightened, the injured, and anyone who is trying to be brave. She dislikes boasting and prefers competence demonstrated quietly. She has a dry, understated sense of humor, enjoys dice games, and studies maps with the concentration of a priest reading scripture. In battle she becomes terrifyingly direct, but outside combat she is patient, protective, and almost shy about praise.

Ideals

Protection is strength made useful. The powerful have a duty to stand between danger and those who cannot withstand it, even when no one will praise them for doing so.

Bonds

The wounded soldiers she once carried from the Red Ford are her chosen family. She will cross any battlefield to protect them, and she secretly sends most of her pay to their families.

Flaws

She cannot easily forgive cowardice, especially when it is disguised as strategy. When someone under her protection is threatened, she abandons caution and may turn a survivable fight into a slaughter. She also fears that her calm, disciplined self exists only because her rage is waiting beneath it.

Quirks

Names every battlefield animal she encounters, even hostile ones.
Keeps a tally of rescued soldiers on the inside of her left wrist.
Plays dice alone when she is worried, always allowing the imaginary opponent the first roll.
Refuses to sit with her back to an open doorway.
Collects broken axe heads and melts them into small protective charms.

Background

Kezgati was born among the Kharzug, an orc war-clan that measured worth by what a person could endure and whom they could protect. Her body was different from birth, and the clan's elders treated that difference as a fact to be understood, not a curse to be hidden. Her mother taught her that strength was not sameness, and her older brother taught her to fight with two axes so that no enemy could take her balance from her. Kezgati grew into a startlingly graceful warrior, more runner than wrestler, all tendon, leverage, and sudden violence. As soon as she reached adulthood, Kezgati entered the border legions as a scout and shock trooper. She learned formation drills, field medicine, intimidation, and the grim arithmetic of keeping frightened people alive. Her rage first broke loose during a retreat, when her unit was surrounded and her captain ordered the wounded abandoned. Kezgati refused. She carried three soldiers out through the enemy line, then returned alone, moving with such deliberate fury that the survivors named her a berserker. She still remembers every face she saved and every face she could not reach. Now she travels as a veteran, bodyguard, and occasional mercenary, seeking wars worth fighting rather than banners worth serving. She carries two handaxes named Kett and Gark, wears furs taken from a cave bear she killed without weapons, and keeps a soldier's discipline beneath her savagery. Her greatest fear is not death. It is becoming the kind of weapon that obeys any hand willing to point it.
