Appearance

Malice is a lean, severe drow woman with dark violet skin, silver-white hair cut bluntly at the jaw, and pale red eyes that rarely blink. Her face bears fine ritual scars around the left eye and across both palms. She wears dark chain mail beneath layered crimson, violet, and bone-white robes, arranged in the style of a surface-world samurai's lamellar armor. A lacquered spider mask hangs at her hip, and her curved blade is wrapped in black silk marked with tiny silver web patterns.

Mannerisms

Malice speaks softly and formally, even during violence. She pauses before answering as though listening to an unseen spider, keeps her hands folded inside her sleeves, and never turns her back on a spiderweb. When displeased, she gently taps the pommel of her scimitar three times.

Personality

Malice is quiet, meticulous, and unnervingly sincere. She treats every conversation as a ritual with hidden stakes, offering small courtesies that feel more like the placement of pieces on a board. She has no interest in wealth, romance, or political status unless one of them can be converted into leverage for Lolth. She is fascinated by surface customs and studies them with the detached patience of a predator learning a new species.

Ideals

Purpose. A blade does not question the hand that guides it. My life has value only when it advances Lolth's will.

Bonds

Lolth is the only bond Malice considers permanent. She also protects the temple spiders that first chose her, believing they are the living witnesses of her true purpose.

Flaws

Malice cannot tolerate being thanked for mercy, because she believes mercy makes her motives impure. She also mistakes obedience for love and will accept almost any cruelty if she can interpret it as a test from Lolth.

Quirks

Names spiders individually and remembers their apparent personalities.
Tests every drink by touching a drop to a silver spider charm.
Keeps a written list of favors owed to her and favors she intends to collect.
Sleeps with one hand resting on the hilt of her curved blade.
Smiles only when an enemy realizes the trap too late.

Background

Malice was born Aurelia of House Travra, the third daughter of a minor drow noble house whose fortunes depended on obedience, ritual, and carefully measured cruelty. She was raised for the priesthood, taught to read omens in spider movement, and trained to smile while delivering judgments. She excelled at ceremony but lacked the appetite for political theater that her matrons prized. What she wanted was simpler. She wanted to be useful to Lolth without anyone standing between them. During a rite intended to test her loyalty, the temple spiders descended upon Aurelia and covered her in living silk. The priestesses called it a blessing, but the spiders gave her a different command. Become the blade that moves where priests cannot. Aurelia abandoned her house name, her rank, and finally her birth name. She took the name Malice, not as an expression of emotion but as a duty. On the surface, she studied the warriors called samurai, adopting their curved swords, layered armor, colorful robes, and disciplined bearing. She stripped their honor of mercy and rebuilt it around Lolth's laws. Her Black Widow Bushido prizes concealment, poison, humiliation, sudden violence, and victory without fairness. To Malice, an honest fight is simply a confession that one was too weak to arrange a better one.
