Appearance

Eylin is a lithe, sharp-featured aasimar woman with warm bronze skin, long silver-white hair, and luminous violet eyes that brighten when she invokes her patron's power. Faint golden markings circle her wrists like celestial manacles, while a blackened sigil resembling a burning eye rests above her heart. She dresses in a weathered sailor's coat over dark leathers, with a red scarf, brass earrings, and a belt hung with charms from ports across the coast. Her smile is quick, mischievous, and rarely entirely trustworthy.

Mannerisms

Eylin constantly checks the direction of the wind, even indoors. She rolls coins across her knuckles while thinking, taps twice on wooden surfaces before making promises, and refers to nearly everyone as captain until they prove unworthy of the title.

Personality

Eylin is charming, restless, and fiercely independent. She treats every conversation like a negotiation and every journey like a potential escape route. She is quick to defend outsiders, deserters, and anyone trapped under the thumb of a cruel authority. Although she acts irreverent toward celestial powers, she secretly longs to believe that her existence has a purpose beyond being a weapon in someone else's design.

Ideals

Freedom. No god, captain, patron, or prophecy owns me. I will choose my own course, even if the sea itself rises against me.

Bonds

The Dawn's Promise and its vanished crew are still alive somewhere beyond the known seas. Eylin will risk almost anything to find them and repay the debt she believes she owes.

Flaws

Eylin cannot resist a dangerous wager, especially when someone tells her that something is impossible. She hides fear behind jokes, lies reflexively when cornered, and is terrified that her patron knows the truth about the vanished crew and is using her hope as a leash.

Quirks

Names every ship she boards and becomes offended if others refuse to use the name.
Keeps a private list of people who owe her favors, including several dead or missing sailors.
Whispers directions to the wind before casting a spell.
Collects unusual seashells and claims each one carries a different voice from the deep.

Background

Eylin was born beneath a blood-red moon aboard the merchant vessel Dawn's Promise, and the crew took her strange silver hair and glowing eyes as an omen. Her mother, the ship's navigator, insisted that Eylin was a blessing from the heavens. The captain disagreed, especially after storms began bending around the ship whenever the child cried. Eylin grew up between decks, learning knots, tides, navigation, and the careful art of knowing when a person was about to betray you. Years later, the Dawn's Promise vanished in a storm that had no wind and no rain. Eylin survived by clinging to a shattered mast, only to awaken on a black beach beneath a sky filled with unfamiliar stars. There, a voice offered her power in exchange for a single promise, never let the sea claim what it has stolen from you. The voice belonged to a fiendish patron whose magic burned like dark fire, and Eylin accepted before she could ask what the price would be. Now she sails from port to port as a warlock and occasional smuggler, searching for the lost crew of the Dawn's Promise while trying to determine whether her patron wants her to rescue them, or deliver them somewhere worse.
