Appearance
Bokk is a lean, wiry hobgoblin of average height, built for speed and endurance. His russet-red skin is marked by faded scars, his sharp face has high cheekbones and a pointed chin, and his pale watery-blue eyes constantly dart from threat to threat. Greasy dark-brown hair hangs in a loose, untidy ponytail, with stringy strands falling around his long pointed ears. A tarnished silver ring pierces his left ear. He wears mismatched scavenged armor, including an oversized dented breastplate, patched leather greaves, a stained brown tunic, and a tattered dark wool cloak. Crude dwarven runes cover his forearms. He carries a notched shortsword, a curved dagger, a longbow, and a bulging leather satchel.
Mannerisms
Bokk speaks rapidly, often correcting himself halfway through a sentence. He glances toward exits and rooftops whenever he enters a new area, rubs the tarnished ring in his left ear when lying, and smiles too quickly when someone mentions loyalty. He keeps one hand near his dagger whenever another person is speaking.
Personality
Bokk is a bundle of nervous energy, quick gestures, darting eyes, and uneven speech. He projects confidence with frantic bravado, constantly measuring everyone around him for danger, leverage, or opportunity. He is clever, observant, and intensely practical. His loyalty lasts only as long as it remains profitable, but he is disciplined enough to understand that cooperation can sometimes be more useful than betrayal. As a sergeant in a hobgoblin encampment, he gives precise orders while quietly preparing excuses in case the plan fails.
Ideals
Control. Order is the only shield against hunger, chaos, and betrayal. Everyone should know their place, and Bokk intends to make certain that his place is above the people who once overlooked him.
Bonds
His battered breastplate once belonged to the sergeant who gave him his first place in a warband. Bokk claims he killed the man in honorable combat, but in truth he arranged the sergeant's death and has never stopped fearing that the truth will surface. He is determined to become indispensable to his hobgoblin encampment before anyone can discard him.
Flaws
Bokk is terrified of being powerless and will betray nearly anyone if he believes it will improve his position. He mistakes trust for weakness, hoards useful information, and cannot resist humiliating rivals who remind him of his own insecurity.
Quirks
Background
Bokk was orphaned on the outer edges of a hobgoblin war camp and learned early that hunger was a more reliable teacher than any drillmaster. He survived by carrying messages, scavenging battlefields, and listening from beneath officers' tables. He studied the habits of soldiers as carefully as he studied tracks, learning who could be bribed, who needed flattery, and who had to disappear before they became a problem. He rose through the ranks of several mercenary companies not through strength, but through timing, useful information, and a willingness to let stronger soldiers take credit for his victories.
