Appearance
Gorrok is a massive hobgoblin male, a full head taller than most of his kin, with russet skin darkened almost to the color of dried blood. His body is a solid mass of scarred muscle and dense bone, covered in old wounds, some clean and deliberate, others ragged and poorly healed. A prominent scar runs from his left temple across the bridge of his broken nose and down to the corner of his mouth, pulling his lip into a permanent grimacing half-snarl. His deep-set black eyes hold a cold, calculating intelligence. His hair is shorn close, his ears are sharply pointed, and the left ear is missing a small piece from the tip. He wears battered dark steel plate armor etched with crude angular warding runes, its grooves filled with blackened blood and grime. Oversized spiked pauldrons, riveted gauntlets, and a fur-lined cloak of dark pelt complete his warlord's appearance. A scarred greataxe rests across his back, while a curved blade and worn warhammer hang at his belt.
Mannerisms
Gorrok speaks in a low, measured rumble and never raises his voice unless he intends to make an example of someone. He pauses before answering as though weighing the tactical value of every word. When assessing a person, he studies their hands, stance, and eyes before looking at their face. He keeps his gauntleted hands still while speaking, but taps one iron finger against his thigh when impatient.
Personality
Gorrok is controlled, observant, and ruthlessly practical. He respects competence regardless of species or allegiance, but he has no patience for sentiment that interferes with survival. He does not enjoy cruelty for its own sake. Instead, he treats violence as a tool, applying it with the same deliberate care that a smith applies a hammer. To those beneath his command, he can be a grim protector. To those who challenge him, he is an inevitable consequence.
Ideals
Order. The world belongs to those who can impose structure upon it. Mercy without authority is merely permission for chaos to return.
Bonds
Gorrok eventually seized control of a ruined frontier encampment after its commanders abandoned their troops. He transformed it into a harsh but efficient fortress, where every person has a role and every resource is accounted for. He considers the encampment his creation and property, and he will destroy anyone who threatens it. Beneath that possessiveness lies a deeper bond to the soldiers who served under him, especially the few veterans who followed him after his former army branded him a traitor for refusing an order he considered strategically foolish.
Flaws
Gorrok cannot tolerate defiance, especially in public. He mistakes compromise for weakness and often destroys useful alliances because he would rather be feared than trusted. He keeps score of every insult, debt, and failure, and his punishments are calculated long after the original offense has been forgotten.
Quirks
Background
Gorrok was born beneath the banners of a hobgoblin war host that measured worth in discipline, endurance, and obedience. As a youth, he learned that survival belonged neither to the strongest nor the cruelest, but to the one who understood exactly when strength and cruelty were useful. He rose through the ranks by turning disorder into formation and panic into obedience. His soldiers followed him because he never asked them to endure what he would not endure himself, and because those who disobeyed him rarely survived long enough to regret it. His scars are the records of campaigns, mutinies, duels, and punishments, each one a lesson carved into flesh.
