Appearance
A softly built warforged with rounded brass plates, dark walnut-colored wood inlays, and a face shaped with unusually gentle features. Pale blue glass lenses glow behind a narrow brow ridge. Fine lines of copper run through the throat and chest, pulsing faintly when strong emotion or battle fury takes hold. A faded sage's sash is wrapped around one shoulder, contrasting with the heavy greataxe and scarred leather harness worn for travel.
Mannerisms
Mahir pauses before answering, as though consulting an internal index. They tap two fingers against their chest when concentrating, carefully smooth the corners of every page they touch, and speak more quickly when excited about an obscure historical detail. During rage, their normally soft voice becomes a deep, resonant hum.
Personality
Mahir is gentle, attentive, and intensely curious. They listen to people with the same care they give old manuscripts, remembering small details and returning to them months later. Beneath the calm scholarship is a fierce protective streak. Mahir dislikes needless cruelty, but once someone threatens the helpless, their restraint can vanish with startling speed.
Ideals
Knowledge is a form of shelter. The truth should be preserved not for the powerful, but for those whose stories are easiest to erase.
Bonds
The book of names taken from the monastery must be completed. Every abandoned warforged Mahir finds deserves a name, a history, and a choice about what comes next.
Flaws
Mahir treats ignorance as a personal failure and can become defensive when asked a question they cannot answer. In dangerous situations, their protective instincts may override judgment, causing them to rush into violence before understanding the threat.
Quirks
Background
Mahir was assembled in a quiet workshop attached to a ruined monastery, not as a soldier but as a keeper of records. Their first memories are of dust, candle smoke, and the patient voice of an elderly archivist teaching them to read three dead languages. For years, Mahir carried scrolls, repaired shelves, and catalogued fragments of history that had survived war. The archivist believed every life deserved to be remembered, including the lives of constructs who had been made for violence and then abandoned when the fighting ended. When raiders came for the monastery's sealed vault, Mahir discovered that their body remembered something their mind did not. With the archivist threatened, rage rose through their carefully ordered thoughts, turning their hands into weapons and their quiet strength into something terrifying. Mahir drove the raiders away, but the vault was destroyed and the archivist was killed. Now Mahir travels with a salvaged book of names, seeking lost records, forgotten warforged, and the truth of who built them. They study the world like a text, yet increasingly suspect that some answers must be earned with action rather than found on a page.
