Appearance

A lean tabaxi with tawny fur, dark striped markings, and bright amber eyes that seem to miss nothing. He wears practical leather armor beneath a travel stained folk cloak, with a polished lute slung across his back and a rapier at his hip. His paws are carefully groomed, though his whiskers are often singed from campfire sparks, and he carries himself with the alert poise of a hunter who has learned to smile first and pounce later.

Mannerisms

He listens with his head slightly tilted, ears twitching toward any sound that catches his interest. When thinking, he taps a claw in a soft rhythm against his lute, and when tension rises he paces in a slow stalking circle as if orbiting the problem until it confesses.

Personality

Warm, alert, and gently mischievous, Whisper treats strangers like stories waiting to be understood. He is brave in a practical way, preferring to steady a frightened hand, outthink a bully, or distract a monster long enough for others to escape. He values kindness over polish, and he believes a good laugh can be as healing as a bandage.

Ideals

Community. People become stronger when they stand together, and even the smallest village deserves defenders who know its name. He believes heroism is not glory, but the steady choice to protect others when no one important is watching.

Bonds

He owes his life to the village that sheltered him, and he sends coin, repairs, and news whenever he can. He also keeps a weathered lute string tied around one wrist, a reminder of the first song he ever used to protect someone else.

Flaws

He cannot resist turning even solemn moments into a performance, and sometimes he jokes when others need silence. He is stubborn about rescuing people who do not want help, convinced that independence and pride are just fear wearing better clothing. If someone questions the worth of common folk, his temper rises fast, and his claws and quips become equally sharp.

Quirks

He purrs softly when pleased, even in tense negotiations.
He names every road, bridge, and inn after the first emotion he felt there.
He refuses to let a bad song go unanswered, and will hum a corrective harmony under his breath.

Background

Whisper of the Heart was born far from the polished roads where bards usually learn their trade, in a river valley where harvests mattered more than crowns. As a young tabaxi, he was always the first to climb the grain towers, the last to come down, and the one most likely to vanish for days following some impossible scent or half heard song carried on the wind. He did not set out to become a hero. He set out to be curious, and curiosity led him straight into danger when raiders came to burn the hamlet that had taken his family in as guest kin. He survived by accident and by instinct, rallying frightened farmers with shouted jokes, clumsy courage, and a melody improvised on a borrowed lute. The tale of the singing cat who stood on a wagon and shouted the villagers into a shield wall spread faster than the raiders' shame. Since then, Whisper has wandered from settlement to settlement, using music to steady shaking hands, sharp wit to unmask liars, and a surprising strength to haul the wounded from danger. He now seeks the perfect song, not for fame, but because he believes every ordinary person deserves one story that proves they mattered.
