Appearance
Copperfang Hunter is a compact, weather-hardened humanoid with tawny skin, a broad nose, dark amber eyes, and thick black hair usually tied in a short knot with copper wire. Years outdoors have roughened the backs of the hands and darkened the forearms with sun and wind. The fingertips are permanently stained green-brown from copper salts, trap oils, and plant dyes. A small copper tooth-shaped charm hangs at the throat, and the left sleeve is reinforced with overlapping strips of cured hide. Their expression is watchful rather than grim, with a quick, crooked smile that appears whenever danger becomes interesting.
Mannerisms
Copperfang pauses before answering questions, as if listening to the ground. They tap metal objects twice before using them, taste rainwater when entering unfamiliar country, and refer to dangerous animals as if discussing difficult neighbors.
Personality
Copperfang is patient with animals, children, and frightened travelers, but blunt with officials and wealthy patrons. They notice practical details before social ones, offering someone a better bedroll before asking their name. In danger, their voice becomes quieter and more precise.
Ideals
The road belongs to whoever can walk it. No border, lord, or mapmaker has the right to deny desperate people a safe passage through the wild.
Bonds
A vanished caravan of mountain settlers trusted Copperfang to lead them through a winter pass. They found the survivors, but not before a predator took several people. Copperfang still follows rumors of the beast and carries the caravan's cracked brass route marker.
Flaws
Copperfang cannot leave a trail, trap, or unanswered sign alone. They mistake curiosity for duty and will risk a group's safety to learn what made an unusual track. They also distrust comfortable people, assuming that anyone who has never slept outdoors is hiding either incompetence or cruelty.
Quirks
Background
Copperfang was born among the Other, a scattered people whose old hunting roads run through high valleys, copper-rich ravines, and abandoned mining country. Their given name was Kete Gakhadze, but traders and patrols began calling them Copperfang after seeing the copper tooth charm they wore while tracking a pack of feral cave drakes. The name stuck because it was easier for outsiders to pronounce, and because Copperfang never bothered to correct anyone who paid for a guide.
