Appearance
A weathered tortle ronin with a cracked but lovingly maintained shell, scarred olive skin, and a stern face framed by a gray-streaked beard beneath his chin. He wears the remnants of his family armor over travel-stained wrappings, carries a katana in a lacquered scabbard at his hip, and keeps a strange revolver close at hand like a cursed relic he both trusts and despises. His eyes are calm, watchful, and haunted, as if measuring every spark of light for the danger it might become.
Mannerisms
He bows before drawing steel, even when angered, and speaks only after a long, thoughtful pause. When uneasy, he taps the rim of his shell with two fingers like a monk striking a bell. He polishes his katana in silence and examines machines by smell first, as though every gear might confess its sins.
Personality
Stoic, deliberate, and difficult to rattle, Crwban speaks like a man choosing each word as if it were a blade stroke. He is deeply patient with the weak, ruthless with the cruel, and suspicious of anyone who treats dangerous power as a game. Beneath his cold exterior is a fierce protector’s heart, though he would deny it if asked.
Ideals
Mercy through restraint. Power without wisdom ruins lives, so the strongest among the world must be held to the strictest standard. If a force cannot be trusted, it should be bound, broken, or destroyed before it can be turned on the innocent.
Bonds
He carries his family armor as a sacred duty and will risk his life before letting it be taken or defiled. He also keeps the revolver from the artificer who destroyed his village, not as a trophy, but as a reminder of the enemy’s methods and the price of failure.
Flaws
His hatred of magic and technology can blind him to nuance, and he may condemn useful tools simply because they resemble the weapons that destroyed his home. He is slow to trust anyone who relies on innovation, and once he decides a person is corrupt, it takes a great deal to change his mind.
Quirks
Background
Crwban Crwdryn was not always a wanderer. He was once the son of a quiet tortle village that prized patient craft, ancestral blades, and a harmony with the land. That balance ended in fire and thunder when a ruthless artificer descended with clockwork soldiers, alchemical munitions, and spell-forged engines. In a single night, his home was reduced to ash and twisted metal. His family’s armor was the only thing left worth carrying, along with the katana of his father and a revolver taken from the hands of the man who destroyed everything he loved. He survived by doing what soldiers do when there is nothing left to defend, he endured. Years of hard service turned grief into discipline, and discipline into a grim pilgrimage. Crwban now wanders from ruin to ruin, hunting the makers and users of great magic and advanced technology alike, convinced that such power invites corruption, cruelty, and the death of the innocent. He tells himself he seeks balance, but beneath that purpose burns a harsher vow, to erase the tools that made his loss possible, especially when they are used for greed, conquest, or slaughter.
