Appearance
Red is a broad-shouldered human with sun-browned skin, close-cropped dark hair, and a quiet, rounded face that becomes unexpectedly bright when she laughs. Her front teeth are slightly prominent, giving her smile a distinctive warmth, and she habitually presses her tongue against one of them when thinking. She wears battered chain mail beneath a faded green surcoat, and keeps one hand near the sword at her hip even when there is no danger. The sword, Oruzan, has a smoke-gray blade etched with hair-thin copper lines that glow faintly whenever Red speaks a deliberate promise.
Mannerisms
Red touches the flat of Oruzan's pommel whenever she hears a promise, oath, or military order. When eating, she bites carefully with her prominent front teeth and then checks them with her tongue without realizing she is doing it.
Personality
Red is patient, observant, and gently humorous in camp, but becomes clipped and intensely precise when danger appears. She remembers the names of cooks, stable hands, sentries, and other people most officers overlook. She dislikes grand speeches and trusts people who repair what they break.
Ideals
Duty is not obedience. True duty means standing between ordinary people and the consequences of powerful people's decisions.
Bonds
Oruzan carries the names of the dead, and Red will uncover the truth behind every name it speaks. She also sends most of her pay to rebuild the river crossing where her old company made its final stand.
Flaws
Red obeys clear orders even when she privately believes them foolish, then broods over the consequences afterward. She is suspicious of anyone who speaks beautifully about sacrifice but has never had to carry the wounded.
Quirks
Background
Red was born Ruzan Mikeladze in a river town where human caravans crossed paths with traders from the eastern hills. The nickname came from a childhood habit of tying a red cloth around her wrist whenever she was frightened. Her older brother joked that fear could not catch her if it had to chase the color first. Years later, after the town militia conscripted her during a border war, the name stayed, while Ruzan was mostly left behind in old letters and the mouths of people who knew her before the marching began. She served as a shield bearer, scout, and eventually a disciplined line fighter. During a disastrous retreat through a ruined monastery, Red found Oruzan, a sword sealed inside a stone reliquary. The blade answered her grip by whispering the names of every soldier who had died defending the pass. Red carried it out, but the sword has never explained whether it chose her, cursed her, or merely mistook her for someone else. An arcane veteran taught her enough wizardry to understand the weapon's strange reactions, and Red became an Eldritch Knight almost by accident, using practical battlefield magic rather than theatrical spells. Now she travels because Oruzan has begun whispering one unfamiliar name, repeated at dawn and whenever Red refuses an unjust order. She believes the sword is leading her toward a survivor, a forgotten enemy, or the person who first placed it in the monastery. Red does not know which answer would frighten her most. She only knows that she will not let another voice be lost because commanders found silence convenient.
