Appearance
Branik Vrst is a compact human man with a broad, work-worn frame and a deliberate, grounded way of standing that makes him seem heavier than he is. His skin is weather-browned and roughened across the hands, forearms, and neck from years outdoors, gathering roots in cold rain and sleeping beneath rough shelters. His dark hair is kept cropped close except for a narrow, uneven braid behind one ear, and his gray-brown eyes remain fixed on whoever is speaking. He wears patched ochre robes beneath a practical travel cloak, both faded by weather, with a simple cord belt carrying his herbalism kit and prayer beads made from polished seed pods.
Mannerisms
Branik stands too close when listening, not from aggression but from years of speaking with people across wind and rain. He pauses before answering even simple questions, as though weighing them in his palm, and quietly counts his breaths whenever anger rises.
Personality
Branik is quiet, observant, and unfailingly attentive to practical needs. He notices who has not eaten, whose boots are failing, and which door does not latch properly. He speaks plainly and dislikes theatrical displays of virtue, but he is unexpectedly patient with frightened people and animals. Once he decides that someone is being exploited, however, his calm becomes immovable.
Ideals
Discipline. A good act is worth little if it cannot be repeated when fear, hunger, and exhaustion make it difficult. I will make myself useful every day.
Bonds
The upland shrine and the people who depend on it are Branik's responsibility. He carries a small bundle of his teacher's prayer beads and will risk himself to protect healers, pilgrims, and anyone abandoned by those with power.
Flaws
Branik treats compromise as the first step toward corruption. He can become coldly judgmental toward people who fail to act when action is difficult, and his refusal to retreat from a moral stand sometimes places innocent companions in unnecessary danger.
Quirks
Background
Branik Vrst was born to a human farming family on the edge of a wind-scoured upland village. He was never strong, quick, or imposing by ordinary measures, and his family expected him to become a keeper of ledgers or a village clerk. Instead, he spent his youth following an elderly shrine caretaker into the hills, learning which roots soothed fever, which mushrooms killed quietly, and how to sit through a storm without mistaking discomfort for danger. When a winter sickness swept through the valley, Branik's remedies saved several lives, but his teacher died after giving away the last of their supplies to strangers on the road.
