Appearance
A small, rust-red kobold with bright amber eyes, oversized ears, and a crooked pair of brass goggles permanently perched on his brow. Bubba wears patched scale mail, a soot-stained leather apron, and a tool belt crowded with screws, wire, scavenged gears, and tiny glass vials. A faded blue scarf is wrapped around his neck, and his tail is decorated with several rattling metal rings.
Mannerisms
Bubba whispers instructions to his tools as though they are apprentices. He frequently tilts his head while listening for hidden mechanisms, taps his claws in rhythmic patterns when thinking, and gives every important invention a dramatic name before testing it.
Personality
Bubba is excitable, suspicious, and endlessly curious. He treats every ruin as a workshop, every monster as a potential source of useful materials, and every stranger as someone who might know where better scrap can be found. Despite his nervous energy, he is observant and patient when tracking, repairing equipment, or studying the natural world.
Ideals
Ingenuity. No problem is impossible when clever hands, patience, and enough discarded parts are brought to bear.
Bonds
Bubba carries the broken brass insignia of his old clan and will risk himself to protect its young, its tunnels, and its few remaining elders.
Flaws
Bubba is convinced that nearly every dangerous situation can be solved by adding more gears, more fire, or both. He is easily distracted by shiny scrap, exaggerates the reliability of his inventions, and becomes defensive when anyone suggests that his so-called dragon egg is merely a damaged magical component.
Quirks
Background
Bubba was born beneath a ruined watchtower where his kobold clan scavenged metal, bones, and broken adventuring gear from the surrounding hills. Unlike the other tunnel-dwellers, Bubba was fascinated by the objects that fell into their hands. He learned to identify springs by the taste of the water, trails by the bend of a broken grass stem, and useful machinery by the way it clicked when shaken. His first invention was a wind-up warning bell made from a spoon, three beetle shells, and the jawbone of a dead goblin. It worked perfectly, except that it rang whenever Bubba sneezed. When a band of adventurers passed through the region, Bubba followed them for three days, studying their weapons, campcraft, and strange magical tools from a safe distance. He eventually rescued a damaged arcane device from a collapsed ruin and taught himself enough artificer's craft to make it function again. The device now serves as the heart of his pack of gadgets, though Bubba insists it is a very important dragon egg. He left his clan to explore the wider world, gather better materials, and prove that a kobold can be a master of invention without becoming anyone's disposable trap trigger.
