Appearance
Eldora is a lean tiefling with dusky red skin, swept-back black horns, and a long tail that curls restlessly when she is thinking. Her clothes are deliberately difficult to read: a well-mended charcoal coat several sizes too large, soft boots with mismatched buckles, and one immaculate white glove that she wears only on her left hand. She studies exits, pockets, and people's hands before she looks at their faces. Her smile arrives quickly, but her trust never does.
Mannerisms
Eldora checks the nearest exit whenever she enters a room, rolls the bent playing card across her knuckles when thinking, and quietly repeats the last few words of a person's sentence before answering. She gives names with a slight pause, as though choosing one from a shelf.
Personality
Eldora is quick-witted, theatrically charming, and always half a step from fleeing. She treats conversation as a game of pressure and misdirection, testing people with small lies before trusting them with larger ones. Beneath the practiced confidence is a constant, gnawing fear that her missing memories conceal an unforgivable crime.
Ideals
Freedom. No power, law, god, or past identity has the right to own Eldora. If something tries to cage her, it deserves to be cheated, robbed, or ruined.
Bonds
The bent playing card found beside her when she awoke is the only object connected to her lost past. Eldora will betray almost anyone before she willingly lets another person take it from her.
Flaws
Eldora assumes every kindness is a trap and every promise has a hidden price. When frightened, she lies reflexively, even when honesty would be safer. She would rather destroy evidence than admit she cannot remember making it.
Quirks
Background
Eldora awoke beneath a collapsed merchant wagon with no memory of how she had arrived there, no possessions besides a bent playing card, and the name Eldora whispered repeatedly in her own sleep. She remembered no family, no hometown, and no patron. What she did remember was useful: how to tell when someone was lying, how to make a purse feel lighter without being noticed, and how to sound confident while inventing an answer. Those instincts kept her alive during the first hungry weeks, first through small cons, then through more elaborate deceptions involving counterfeit credentials, staged hauntings, and fake charitable causes. Her tiefling heritage made strangers eager to blame her for every missing coin, so Eldora learned to turn suspicion into theater. As a charlatan, she became a rotating cast of harmless travelers, minor nobles, bereaved widows, and wandering miracle workers. As a rogue, she discovered that a locked door was simply a conversation conducted with different tools. Eldora now travels to uncover the truth of her forgotten past, though she suspects the truth may be something she did deliberately. Each new identity protects her from the world, but also makes it harder to know whether the person beneath them is real.
