Appearance
A lean, sharp-featured tiefling man with deep crimson skin, swept-back black hair, and curved obsidian horns. His yellow eyes glow faintly when he casts spells, and his long tail is wrapped with strips of faded military cloth. He wears a weathered soldier's coat over dark leather, marked with old burn scars and the insignia of a mercenary company he no longer serves. A silver signet ring bearing the crest of his mother's noble family hangs from a chain around his neck, its crest deliberately scratched nearly beyond recognition.
Mannerisms
He speaks with the clipped precision of a veteran officer, even when threatening someone. He rubs the scratched signet ring whenever he hears a noble title, and his tail curls tightly around his leg when he is trying not to lose his temper. During tense moments, he quietly counts exits, windows, and flammable objects.
Personality
Cassian is controlled, observant, and ruthlessly practical. He rarely raises his voice because he has learned that quiet certainty frightens people more than shouting. He respects competence, especially in soldiers and survivors, but he treats kindness as a possible tactic until proven otherwise. Beneath his cold discipline is a desperate desire to be recognized as more than an unwanted accident.
Ideals
Power. The noble-born and the well-connected built their comfort on the suffering of people like him. He will gain enough power to make them afraid, then decide whether revenge is more satisfying than rule.
Bonds
The scratched signet of House Vale is the only thing he has from his mother, and he intends to force the family to acknowledge him before he destroys their influence. He also seeks the devil who fathered him, not merely to bargain for power, but to learn whether he was ever wanted.
Flaws
He is vindictive, suspicious, and quick to interpret pity as an insult. He would rather escalate a conflict than allow an enemy to believe they have power over him. His hatred of nobles can override his judgment, and the possibility of meeting his devilish father makes him dangerously willing to accept almost any bargain.
Quirks
Background
Born beneath the roof of a noble house, he was never permitted to enter it. His mother, Lady Merrowyn Vale, had conceived him during a secret bargain with a devil whose name she refused to speak. When the child was born with crimson skin, horns, and a tail, the family declared him an embarrassment and abandoned him in an alley before sunrise. He survived by stealing, intimidation, and the strange infernal magic that answered his anger. Street children learned to fear the boy who could make flames crawl across his fingers, while older criminals learned that he would burn them if cornered.
