Appearance
Signas is a towering male goliath standing nearly eight feet tall, with slate-gray skin, black hair braided with copper prayer rings, and pale blue eyes that glow faintly when he invokes his patron. His broad shoulders are wrapped in weathered leather armor beneath a dark crimson clerical robe. A cracked holy symbol hangs beside an iron orb used as his arcane focus, and faint ember-like sigils crawl across his forearms whenever his magic stirs.
Mannerisms
Signas taps his holy symbol three times before casting a spell, then whispers the name of the power he is defying. He leans down uncomfortably close when speaking to smaller folk, not from rudeness but because he forgets how intimidating his height can be. When angry, he becomes very polite and begins quoting obscure prayers in a perfectly calm voice.
Personality
Signas is curious, irreverent, and strangely courteous. He treats every conversation as a theological debate, but he listens closely when someone speaks from genuine conviction. He dislikes cruelty more than he dislikes lawbreaking, and he will often help a desperate person first and decide whether the help was wise afterward. He is fascinated by contracts, omens, and old ruins, especially when all three appear together.
Ideals
Freedom. No god, fiend, priest, king, or prophecy has the right to own another person's will. Every bargain should be understood, and every authority should be questioned.
Bonds
He carries the cracked holy symbol of the mountain shrine that cast him out, and he will risk anything to protect the young acolytes still trapped under its authority.
Flaws
Signas cannot resist exposing hypocrisy, even when silence would save lives. He assumes every gift conceals a price, including kindness, and his suspicion can turn allies into enemies. Worse, he secretly enjoys the fear his fiendish magic creates and worries that each victory makes his patron's influence feel more natural.

Background
Signas was raised in a highland shrine where goliath pilgrims honored the divine forces they believed moved behind storms, stone, and fire. His unusual height and solemn voice made him a natural cantor, and he spent years copying prayers, tending sacred braziers, and guiding travelers through dangerous mountain passes. He was respected for his intelligence and discipline, though never entirely trusted because he asked questions that priests preferred to leave unanswered. Signas wanted to understand whether the gods truly answered prayers, or whether mortals merely mistook the echoes of older powers for divine grace. His answer came during a winter eclipse, when the shrine's sacred flame went black and a voice spoke from within it. The voice belonged to an ancient fiend who offered knowledge in exchange for a single promise, that Signas would never kneel to any power without first learning what it wanted. Signas accepted, convinced he could use the pact to expose false prophets and protect the helpless. The bargain gave him terrifying fire magic, but it also revealed that the shrine's elders had been concealing a prophecy about a coming celestial catastrophe. Branded a heretic after confronting them, Signas left with his prayer book, his stolen holy symbol, and a growing suspicion that his patron may have been telling the truth for all the wrong reasons. Now he travels as an acolyte without a temple, seeking forbidden answers and choosing his allies one dangerous bargain at a time.
