Appearance
A slender wood elf with weathered bronze skin, long ash-brown hair braided with dried herbs, and bright green eyes flecked with gold. A pale scar crosses the left eyebrow, earned while protecting a sacred grove from poachers. Their robes are patched scholar's gray beneath a moss-green traveling cloak, and a polished quarterstaff bears tiny handwritten notes in Druidic along its length.
Mannerisms
Lethariel pauses before answering difficult questions, looking upward as though consulting an invisible branch. They annotate maps while walking, tap their staff three times before casting a spell, and address plants as if they were patient but exceptionally slow students.
Personality
Quietly intense, observant, and unfailingly courteous, Lethariel listens to animals and strangers with the same serious attention. They are fascinated by forgotten knowledge, easily delighted by small natural discoveries, and prone to lecturing dangerous people about ecological consequences.
Ideals
Knowledge must serve life. Learning that does not protect the vulnerable, preserve the natural world, or prevent suffering is merely another form of hoarding.
Bonds
The sacred spring beneath the monastery must be restored, and the unknown author of the poisoned-grove cipher must be found before another land is ruined.
Flaws
Lethariel treats every mystery as more urgent than common sense. They will investigate a suspicious inscription, strange footprint, or unusual fungus even when danger is obvious, and they become visibly irritated when companions dismiss a clue as irrelevant.

Background
Lethariel Thornebough was raised among the archive-towers of an ancient woodland monastery, where elven sages preserved maps, herbals, weather records, and half-forgotten accounts of the Feywild. Their unusual constitution made them a tireless copyist, able to spend entire nights transcribing fragile manuscripts while other apprentices slept. During those years, Lethariel learned to compare the language of old scholars with the living signs of the forest, discovering that a damaged botanical treatise could reveal as much truth as a moonlit conversation with an owl. When a blight began spreading through the monastery's surrounding groves, Lethariel abandoned the safety of the library to study its source. Their investigations revealed that the sickness was not natural. Someone was poisoning the roots beneath a sacred spring to force the local spirits from the land. Lethariel helped cleanse the spring, but the culprit escaped, leaving behind a single page written in an unknown cipher. Now Lethariel travels as a druid and field scholar, collecting evidence, protecting threatened wild places, and seeking the meaning of that mysterious page. Their familiar, a small dusk-colored owl named Index, is both research assistant and constant critic.
