Appearance
Bryly is a small, wiry goblin with moss-green skin, large amber eyes, and a narrow face framed by uneven black hair. Her long ears are decorated with tiny brass charms, each one marking a solved case or an important clue. She wears a well-maintained brown leather coat over dark travel clothes, a red scarf borrowed from her family's restaurant, and a collection of hidden pockets filled with lockpicks, chalk, false documents, and scraps of evidence. A thin scar crosses one eyebrow, and her sharp smile often appears moments before she notices something everyone else missed.
Mannerisms
Bryly squints at people when they speak, glances at their hands and shoes before their faces, and quietly narrates her deductions under her breath. When excited, she taps three fingers against her thumb as if counting clues. She dislikes sitting with her back to a door and always chooses the smallest chair in a room.
Personality
Bryly is observant, quick-witted, compassionate toward underdogs, and relentlessly curious. She treats every conversation like an interrogation disguised as small talk. Although she often appears smug or suspicious, she genuinely wants to keep ordinary people safe, especially those whose concerns are ignored by guards, nobles, or larger adventuring parties. Beneath her confidence is a deep fear that her family was right to doubt her.
Ideals
Truth belongs to everyone, especially to people who are too powerless or overlooked to demand it for themselves. Cleverness should be used to protect the vulnerable, not to exploit them.
Bonds
Bryly secretly keeps the restaurant's old red scarf and still watches for news from her family. She wants to prove that her dreams were worthwhile, but more than that, she hopes to solve a mystery important enough to make them proud. She also feels responsible for protecting the people of her hometown from the kinds of criminals she once noticed but could never confront.
Flaws
Bryly cannot resist investigating a mystery, even when prudence says to walk away. She is quick to assume that people who criticize her are secretly trying to control her, and her resentment toward her family can make her defensive, stubborn, and needlessly eager to prove herself. She also has a habit of bending the truth long after honesty would have been simpler.
Quirks
Background
Bryly grew up above her family's busy little restaurant, where she learned to read people by watching who lied about their orders, who slipped away without paying, and who left muddy footprints near the back door. She was always more interested in the mysteries surrounding the town than in helping prepare stews and sweep the dining room. Her family wanted her to remain at home and eventually take over the restaurant, but Bryly dreamed of becoming a rogue and detective, someone clever enough to uncover hidden crimes and brave enough to pursue the truth into dark places. When they dismissed her ambitions as childish nonsense, she left without saying goodbye.
