Features
12 featuresBonus action
- Bardic InspirationLevel 1
Rook can inspire another creature within 60 feet that can hear her. As a Bonus Action, she grants one Bardic Inspiration die, a d6, which the creature can use within the next hour after failing a D20 Test to add the die to the roll. Rook can use this feature four times, equal to her Charisma modifier, and regains all expended uses after a Long Rest.
Always on
- Vicious Mockery
When A creature Rook can see within 60 feet makes an attack or otherwise presents an opening for a cruelly precise observation.
Rook speaks a cutting phrase wrapped in uncanny music. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or take 1d6 Psychic damage and have Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the end of its next turn.
- Dissonant Whispers
When A hostile creature within 60 feet is vulnerable to fear, confusion, or psychic pressure.
Rook whispers a discordant phrase that overwhelms a nearby creature's senses. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw, taking 3d6 Psychic damage on a failure or half as much on a success, and a failed save also forces the target to use its Reaction to move up to its full Speed away from Rook if possible.
- SpellcastingLevel 1
Rook uses Charisma as her spellcasting ability. She can cast bard spells using a musical instrument or another spellcasting focus as a focus. She knows two bard cantrips and has four bard spells prepared. Her spell save DC is 14 and her spell attack bonus is +6.

Appearance
Rook is a hauntingly beautiful human woman with ashen skin, bloodless-looking veins, and an almost imperceptible stillness beneath her movements. Her dark hair is carefully braided with thin strips of parchment covered in half-finished prayers and observations. She dresses in a well-maintained but poorly fitted temple robe beneath a travel-worn leather coat, with every tear repaired using black thread. Her hands are unusually cold and precise, stained with ink from years of copying scripture, maps, and spirit accounts. People tend to find her immediately captivating, then inexplicably pitying, as though they sense a loss she cannot name.
Mannerisms
Rook pauses before answering personal questions, as though listening for a second voice beneath the speaker's words. She keeps one hand near her holy symbol during conversations about death. When nervous, she silently mouths the last word of each sentence. She writes down the names of people she meets, even when they insist they will never be important.
Personality
Rook is gentle, observant, and relentlessly curious. She treats strangers with the patience usually reserved for the grieving, and she has an instinctive tenderness toward the frightened, the forgotten, and the dead. Her beauty and composed voice draw people toward her, but her emotional responses are sometimes delayed or subtly incorrect, as if she is reconstructing how a living person should react. She loves stories because every story is evidence that a person existed.
Ideals
Every life, whether first or returned, deserves the freedom to become something new. Knowledge should be used to ease suffering, not to control the living or the dead.
Bonds
The temple that brought Rook back is the closest thing she has to a home, but its sealed resurrection records may contain the truth of what she was before death. She is determined to uncover that truth without allowing the priests who revived her to decide what her second life must mean.
Flaws
Rook cannot leave a mystery alone, even when pursuing it endangers herself or others. She distrusts ordinary explanations, assumes that every kindness may conceal a ritual purpose, and becomes coldly evasive whenever anyone asks what she remembers about dying. She also fears that her compassion is only an imitation of the person she used to be.
Quirks
Background
Rook was once a devoted acolyte in a quiet temple where she copied prayers, catalogued relics, and sang the names of the dead during funerary rites. She remembers the temple, the smell of lamp oil, and the sound of her own voice carrying beneath the stone vaults. She does not remember dying. Her earliest clear memory is waking on a consecrated table while priests argued over whether the resurrection had succeeded. Her skin had turned ashen, her veins showed no healthy color, and her heartbeat was faint enough to make every physician hesitate. No wound marked her body, and no spell could explain why she had returned.
“She remembers the temple, the smell of lamp oil, and the sound of her own voice carrying beneath the stone vaults.”
