Appearance
Savael is a tall, lean wood elf with warm brown skin, long ash-blond hair, and clear gray-green eyes. His hair is carefully braided with thin cords of dyed reed, a grooming habit maintained with almost ceremonial precision. A small wooden prayer tablet hangs at his throat on a weather-softened cord, its lower edge polished smooth by years of nervous thumb-rubbing. He wears worn leather armor beneath a moss-green mantle, carries a round wooden shield painted with a faded spiral of leaves, and keeps his calligrapher's supplies wrapped in oilcloth at his belt.
Mannerisms
Before speaking, Savael often touches the worn edge of his prayer tablet and glances toward the nearest living plant. He writes brief notes in the margins of any document placed in front of him. When angry, he becomes more formal and begins addressing people by their full names.
Personality
Savael is patient, observant, and ceremonially courteous, even when dealing with obvious fools. He prefers careful questions to quick judgments and has a habit of treating damaged landscapes as patients whose symptoms must be listened to before they are treated. Beneath his calm is a stubborn, practical compassion. He will negotiate for as long as negotiation protects the vulnerable, then act without apology when it no longer does.
Ideals
Balance. No living thing is sacred because it is powerful, and no living thing is worthless because it is small. Every choice should leave room for something else to survive.
Bonds
The spring beneath his childhood shrine is still tainted, and Savael will risk almost anything to restore it. He also carries the prayer tablet of his first teacher, who disappeared while investigating the source of the poisoning.
Flaws
Savael can become quietly judgmental toward anyone who treats nature as scenery, property, or an inexhaustible resource. He delays difficult decisions while searching for a perfectly balanced solution, even when immediate action is necessary. He also hides exhaustion behind ritual politeness and would rather suffer privately than admit that he needs help.
Quirks
Background
Savael was raised in a woodland shrine where elven priests honored the turning of seasons beside a spring that never froze. His earliest duties were humble, washing offering bowls, copying prayers, and tending the shrine's medicinal garden. The priests taught him that devotion was not obedience to a single voice, but attention to the balance between hunger and plenty, decay and renewal, solitude and community. He learned to write blessings in a precise flowing hand, then began adding small botanical diagrams to the margins of the temple records. When a mining settlement upstream poisoned the spring, Savael left the grove with his prayer tablet, a satchel of herbs, and the reluctant blessing of his teachers. He studied with a druidic circle that taught him to read the land as a living archive. Now he travels as both caretaker and witness, healing where he can, confronting those who mistake ownership for stewardship, and recording every damaged watershed, burned nesting ground, and restored meadow. He does not seek to punish civilization, but he refuses to let comfort excuse carelessness.
